Connecting SAP Commerce Cloud to the New Search Service

In this video, you'll see how you can connect  your SAP Commerce Cloud environment to your Search Service tenant.  Note that this video covers step 2  in your Search Service onboarding.  You should have already completed  your initial login to Cloud Identity Services  and have created the required applications  for your search service URL,  Client ID, and Client Secret. If not go back to step one in the onboarding. The first step in connecting an  SAP Commerce Cloud environment to  Search Service is to edit or create  a Search Provider Configuration.  This can be found in Backoffice under System  and then Search and Navigation. In this demo, we're using sample data,  so one is already set up. This configuration will contain all the parameters needed to connect to the  Search Service tenant created for this  SAP Commerce Cloud environment.  This is all set in the linked  Consumed Destination. The URL field contains the link to the  Search Service tenant. Under Additional Properties,  an o auth resource needs to be added,  which should map to resources  created in step 1 of the onboarding. The necessary credentials are also included.  These credentials include your Client ID  and Client Secret, which are covered in  step 1 of the onboarding, and the o auth URL.  With all this information provided,  the SAP Commerce Cloud environment is  now connected to the Search Service tenant.  Next, we'll see how to set up  an Index Configuration.  This can also be found in Backoffice under Search and Navigation. In this example,  we’ll use electronics sample data.  The main properties of this  Index Configuration are:  A link to the Search Provider Configuration set up in the previous part of this video. A link to a synonym dictionary. A list of languages used on the storefront. And a list of currencies used on the storefront. This configuration can now be uploaded  to the Search Service,  by clicking on Export Configuration.  You can also use this upload to test your  connection at the same time.   Next an Index Type must be created.  Once again you can see electronics sample data being used.  In the Index Type there are different  important fields to keep in mind.  The catalog that is to be indexed,  needs to be selected here.  Also, there is a list of fields  that are to be included in the index.  And the last we will mention in this video, is the list of cron jobs  associated with this index type. As you can see, there are 2 cron jobs that are already set up.  One, the full index cron job,  will index all products.  The other cron job, the incremental job,  will update an existing index, updating only new products or new product attributes. These cron jobs can be scheduled  or triggered manually.  To trigger them, click Run Indexer and choose  which of the 2 cron jobs you want to start.  In this case, choose the full indexing job. After the cron job is completed,  the index is in the Search Service  and ready to be queried.  However, no storefront is yet configured  to use this index.  We now need to switch to the base store  to choose a storefront. Here we'll once again use  the electronics sample store.  The Product Index Type needs to be  the Index Type we set up before.  Then we can select  which search strategy to use.  As long as there are  Product Search Strategies for both Solr  and the Search Service,  it's easy to switch between both.  We simply select the strategy  that we would like to use and click save.  In this example, we've switched from Solr  to the Search Service in just 3 clicks.  Of course, switching the other way around  is just as easy.  Note that there's no further step necessary  and the switch will be effective  on the storefront right away.
