Creating and Sharing Stories in Embedded Analytics for SAP Incentive Management

Hello and welcome. In this video, I'll demonstrate how to create a basic story in Embedded Analytics for SAP Incentive Management and how to share the story to a group of users. Embedded Analytics is an intuitive cloud-based analytics application designed to help compensation administrators and other professionals create visually engaging interactive analytics based on data from SAP Incentive Management. Embedded Analytics streamlines the entire process of communicating sales compensation data by providing intuitive, fast, and reliable access to sales data, all in a graphical, interactive interface. It does this through the use of data models. Data models display the measures, dimensions, relationships, filters, and other information that the administrator can use to build a story. This allows users to create complex analysis without the need to understand complex data models or query languages. Ready to start your first story? Before we begin, here are a few questions to ask. First, what question are you trying to answer with the story? Second, what data are you trying to communicate in the story? Third, who is the main audience for the story? And fourth, is the data current in Incentive Management? In other words, are the correct fields populated, and have you run the calculation to make sure the data is up to date? In this example, I'll show you how to create a story that details the credits assigned to each payee. First, click the Plus icon to create a new story. Next, I'll select the Credits data model. I'm now presented with a blank canvas to which I can add widgets. A widget is any visual object that you can place on the canvas to build the story. Some widgets, such as images and text, contain static information, while others, such as tables and charts, display dynamic data from your Incentive Management results. Let's add a chart by dragging the chart widget to the canvas. Notice a new panel has appeared to the right. This panel has two roles: Builder and Styling. Use the Builder to build the information you want displayed in the story. Use the Styling to choose specific formats such as the background color, borders, font, alignment, and so on. I'll select the Builder first to choose the information I want displayed. First, I need to decide on the chart structure. I can select from an extensive list of chart types, including bar, column, line, and many more. In this case, I'll select the bar column. I'll also set the orientation to vertical. Now I can add a measure to the chart. A measure is a quantifiable value displayed in a chart. When using the credits data model, I can select credit count,  pre-adjusted value, or credit value. I'll select credit value. Now I need to add some dimension to my chart. A dimension is a value that is used to divide the measure in meaningful ways. In this example, I want to show the total credits for each individual payee. Using the Add Dimensions link, I can see a list of available dimensions. Let's select Full Name. This chart would look better if it was a little wider.  I can change the size by clicking and dragging on this bar. I can further control the chart by expanding the Action menu. Here, I can sort or rank the data in the story linked to another story or remove the chart to name a few options. I'll use the Rank option to show the top 5 payees ranked highest to lowest. I can change the title of the chart by double-clicking on the title text. Let's rename it to Top 5 Performers. I can drag any widget type to the canvas to add content to the story. Let's add the title to the story by dragging a text widget to the top. I'll name it Credit Values by Payee. I'd like to make this text bold. To do this, I'll select the text, then select the styling icon to change the right panel to styling. I'll scroll down to find font and change the font style to bold. Now I'll save the story to my compensation folder. At this point, I'm the only person who can see the story.  For any other user to see it, I have to share the story. I can do this by either directly sharing the story or creating a team. To share a story, I can select the share icon on the toolbar. I'll search for the user named Amy Witton, and I'll give her full control of the story. Then I'll select Share. I can also choose to send her an email with a link to the story. Then I'll select Close. Another option is to create a Team. Teams allow me to quickly share stories with the same set of users. Optionally, I can create a team folder. If I do this, all the stories in the folder will be shared with the team. To create a team, I'll expand the navigator in the left pane then select Teams. I'll select Create Team, then give it a name. Let's add a folder for the team, then select Next Step. We can assign the team to roles or users. I'll skip roles. Under user assignment I'll select a few users, then select Next Step. I'll select Next Step one more time to confirm, then Save. Now I'll go back to Files, and move the story I created to the new team folder. Now any members of the team, including members I add after creating the team, will have access to all the stories in the folder. In this video I showed you how to create and share a story, and how to create a team using Embedded Analytics for SAP Incentive Management. Thanks for watching!
