Creating Contingent Types in SAP Fieldglass

Did you know that you can use contingent types to hide and lock specific attributes on job postings? Every SAP Fieldglass tenant is configured to reflect how buyers create job postings. For example, WorkingNet does not want Brazilian job postings to show the proposed pay rates to their managers, even though other locations do not require the same rule. The Contingent type allows WorkingNet to configure job posting templates that reflect these regional differences without needing to individually configure every field during the template creation. Through this functionality, buyers can determine whether a certain attribute is visible on job posting templates or if it should simply lock its value so it cannot be changed. This is beneficial for companies that have multiple sets of regulations and wish to avoid oversights during the creation of job postings. Hiding and pre-defining attributes also help streamline the job posting creation process, keeping selectable attributes to a minimum. Let's say that for a new network engineering position in your company, the timesheet frequency must always be monthly. To ensure this in the job posting template, a new contingent type is created to lock only this option. Now, let's bring this scenario to the application and show you how a contingent type is created. In the Worker section of the Admin menu, select Contingent Type. Then, select the New button to start the creation process. The choices made in this section determine the settings that display and the values that default when a job posting template is created using this contingent type. First, you need to enter a title for the new contingent type. Since it's for a network engineering position, let's enter Network Engineering in the name field. Now, you can scroll down to start the job posting template configuration. The first two columns, reflected by the eye and padlock icons, indicate if and how the option will appear on the job posting template. The eye icon indicates whether the attribute is visible on the job posting template or not. If this option is selected, the icon appears blue and with a slash through it. That means that the item will not appear on the job posting template. The padlock icon indicates if the set value of the attribute should be locked on the template. If this option is selected, the padlock will appear blue and locked, and the option will show on the template but will not be editable. The third column is the setting of the attribute itself. Scroll down until we see the timesheet frequency under the Accounting section. Let's keep the timesheet frequency monthly as Yes and change the remaining options to No. Then, select the padlock icon to make this attribute visible during the job posting template creation but not editable. Let's now select Continue and go to the Form and Details page. Here are the settings that default when a user creates a job posting using a template that was created through this contingent type. Now we select Continue again and go to the Review and Submit page. Here you can review all settings before creating the contingent type. Once satisfied, select Add. Now let's take a look how this functionality impacts a job posting template creation. The first example shows that the timesheet frequency is set to monthly, but during the job posting template creation, this option can be changed. The second example created via the Network Engineering contingent type shows us that the timesheet frequency is locked and cannot be changed during the template creation. And this is how the contingent type works.
