Creating Custom Analytical Query in SAP Marketing Cloud

Welcome to part two of the Marketing Analytics Extensibility Video series. In part one you learned how to create CDs views in SAP Marketing Cloud. In this video, you'll learn how to create a custom analytical query and use the View Browser app, as this is a preparation for SAP analytics, cloud models and stories. In the next step in the custom Analytical Query app, we define the query and analytics question in different control definitions for the data source. Additionally, we can use existing content delivered from SAP or own created content using the custom CDs view. In the general tab, we can specify whether we want to suppress zeros or have more processing power available in our query. In the Fields Selection tab, we can define the field availability and handling based on our selected data source. In the display tab, we can adjust our query adding naming and labeling properties. Additionally, we can create insights like the number of interactions using counters. Dive into timelines, adding a user input filter with the date functions, or create structuring elements like hierarchies. Finally, we can use the filters tab to filter the result set of the query. Specify whether we want to input from the user for processing a dynamic query, or if we are going to create a more static analysis based on fixed values. As the analytics specialist, you can navigate to the custom Analytical Queries app within SAP Marketing Cloud. Click create to create a new query. Assign a name to the newly created query in our case, loyalty demo query. The prefix y y1 is assigned to it to identify custom development. Use the data source value to select the loyalty data source for the query. Note that only the custom CDS views of type cube can be selected as the data source here. Click okay to make your selection. Using zero suppression, we can suppress zero values in our query. This is useful for scenarios where zeros don't add value to the query. Using the max processing effort, we can define how much processing power we can use for this query. Note that the processes running on the marketing system take resources. It's better to define the data sources adequately so that we can create queries with little to no processing effort. In the Field selection tab. We can define which fields we'd like to provide. Using this query, all fields selected are added to the free access, which is a virtual access. In productive use, you'll be able to move fields from the virtual access to the row or column access if not already predefined in the upcoming step. Usually, dimensions are placed on the rows and measures are placed on the column axis. In the display tab, we can move the selected fields into the rows and columns of the query. To provide faster results for the end user using the dimension format setting, we can define what will be displayed, whether the key or the text description. In addition to the name labeling settings, we can assign the sorting. We can move the fields by using the up and down buttons or the access dropdown menu. We'll move the interaction contact ID and loyalty stage fields to rows and the Loyalty Score field to columns. Note that the display settings are different for field types of measure and dimension. In the filters tab, you can define filter conditions for this query. To round up the end user experience, feel free to add some conditions. If you want to restrict the results. Set process by the query. Click Save Draft to save the current state of the query. Use the preview query to see how it looks in the user interface. Click publish to publish the current state of the custom analytical query. Note that an OData service is created and activated in the background when the query is published. The query is now available for consumption by reports and KPIs. You have now learned how to create a custom analytical query. For now, you'll learn how to use the View Browser app. On the marketing side for setting up SAP analytics, cloud models and stories using the View browser app, we can browse and investigate the different views available in the marketing system. We're able to see and check the status for release views, which we use as a base to create our custom views. Here we can also see the data category defined for the view type of the views listed in the Create Application function. Dedicated applications for already released analytical queries can be created. The new application gives us a set up to provide access information via catalog assignments. This also enables us to grant access from outside of SAP Marketing Cloud, which is necessary to access the query in the SAP Analytics Cloud system. Let's see how this works. We'll use the View Browser app to create an analytical query application and assign the right access catalogs to it. This is required to make the query available in the SIAC system, as well as for business users within SAP Marketing Cloud. Using the search function, we can narrow down our view. From the results, we can see our creative query with the labeled data category query. Using the checkbox we'll select our query. Click Create Application to create the analytical application for the selected query. In the pop up window will assign the subtitle Loyalty Demo query for language based references and confirm our setting by selecting the application. We can view the assigned business catalogs which have access to the application in the SAP Marketing Cloud. The business rules are defined through business catalogs granting access to the applications. Currently, there's no data defined. This means no one can access the query at the moment. This missing access also applies to the SAP Analytics Cloud. Click add to open the available business catalogs. Search for the analytics catalogs to narrow down the analytics related catalog. We'll select the four catalogs analytics, KPI design, analytics, query browser Marketing analytics and reporting. Marketing analytics and Reporting Gallery. It could be that some catalogs overlap and providing access, and you may not need to select all of them anyway. Let's select all of them for now. Click check at the bottom to check if there were any issues with the assignment. Select the catalogs to activate the query for access and assign access rights. Click publish. Activating the query might take some time. Note that this step provides control and access to sensitive data. By doing this, we don't need to implement any additional access schemes in S.A.C. for setting up a live data connection. In this video, you learned how to create a custom analytical query and how to use View Browser app. On the marketing side for setting up SAP analytics, cloud models and stories. In part three, you'll learn how to set up SAP analytics, cloud models and stories, which then can be made accessible for the SAP Marketing Cloud.
