Creating Hotspots Using AI and Dynamic Data Visualization in SAP Integrated Product Development – PET 2026

Hello, and welcome to our Cloud ERP Product Expert Training H1 2026. My name is Annette Garcia -Lorenzo, and in this video, I will showcase the creation of hotspots using AI and the dynamic data visualization in SAP Integrated Product Development. As always, the content of this training belongs to SAP. SAP Integrated Product Development is part of the idea-to-market business process, a generic business process that covers all processes associated with managing the lifecycle of products and services. The two features I would like to highlight today is the creation of hotspots using AI and the dynamic data visualization. Both features increase the processing speed tremendously and help you reduce human errors. The first feature is the AI -assisted hotspot creation and specifically for piping and instrumentation diagrams. When working with piping and instrumentation diagrams, it is a very cumbersome process to manually create hotspots in 2D drawings for further use. Manually identifying hotspots and then copying the related data into the file takes a lot of time and effort. This new feature uses a trained object detection model to recognize the piping and instrumentation diagram symbols and automatically create hotspots for those detected symbols. Also, you can use it to automatically map the generated hotspots to the relevant business data. This allows you to speed up the processing tremendously when digitizing P&I diagrams and improves your team's efficiencies by reducing the time spent searching and updating physical documents. Also, the mapping of the related business data can be sped up a lot. The risk of human errors is reduced. So what can this feature do for you? This feature was part of the 2509 release of IPD visualization, and you can use it to automatically generate hotspots for 2D drawings, including piping and instrumentation diagram symbols. The system helps you to identify the related hotspots and then to associate the related back-end data with those hotspots. The model has been trained on thousands of the most common P and ID symbols so that it can detect them automatically. The relevant business data can be mapped from an uploaded business data file. For more information on the use and setup, please refer to the product help. Now let's see how this works in practice. I am in the visualization capability and you can already see that I have a few files updated. One is a back-end data file. So you can see here, this is a list of back -end data for certain parts that I will see in the visualization. So you can see here, I have the names of certain parts. I have information like equipment number. Sorry, it's in German. It's a real file that we were provided, thankfully. But I think you understand, for example, here, C1, C2, C3. That's the name of all the parts we just see in a second in the 2D visualization. And then I have the visualization file itself that I uploaded already to the system. And for all these symbols here, I will have to create hotspots. In order to work on the file, I need to first create an editable visualization. So that's what I did. And this is the file I can actually work on. So I will go into that file and choose the edit mode. and now imagine before you had to manually create hotspots for all these symbols here and it was a really really long process now you can just generate hotspots with ai and i will tell the system that i want piping and instrumentation diagrams and this system this ai feature has been trained of tens thousands of diagrams so it should recognize most of the diagrams that are used in the market so it finds the appropriate shapes and as you can see now if i hover over them it has already created hotspots you can of course go in and you can edit them as needed you see all the related data i can show here you can add it maybe change the name or other data so it's an important step to make sure that the generated data is useful compared to the other business data file and then once you're satisfied with the pre -generated data you can go and map it to the business data from the business data file you can create mapping rules that tell you exactly what the source is what data gets mapped and then you can say auto assign the mapped data to the visualization and if i go back now and let's say we want to look at the cd3 hotspot you can see now that all the data from the other file has been added here and this really speeds up tremendously the creation of hotspots now let's come to our second feature the dynamic data visualization which challenge is solved with this feature dynamic data visualization is very useful for customers who need to constantly monitor their data. For example, energy providers. An energy provider may have distributed assets that they want to monitor in real time. Those assets could be pumps or meters or pressure gorges. These tools need to be monitored at all times to identify issues early on and prevent negative consequences. The dynamic data visualization increases the operational visibility of such tools and allows users to remotely monitor key systems or operations in real time. This helps improve decision making by allowing users to see issues as they emerge, helping them to react quickly and to minimize system downtimes. The dynamic data visualization was released with the 2509 release of SAP Integrated Product Development. A new tab dynamic content was added to the author app for 2D visualizations. This dynamic content lets you add content to 2D visualization that can change in real time while you're viewing the visualization. The system provides templates to determine the styling and color of text or numbers to be displayed. Administrators can set their preferences for the styling of the dynamic content using those templates they can also create their own templates they can set the text styling data source to be used data selections and so on the templates that they can create can then be used by the end user to choose a certain styling and data mapping and refresh time of the content now let's see how this works in practice so let's say you're an energy provider you have to monitor a lot of systems to make sure to detect issues early on you can see here that this data is being refreshed i think every five seconds this data may come from an asset performance management system and in our ipd system the user could identify how often should the data get refreshed in the back-end system you may have thresholds to say okay this is a pressure value that is not okay for me anymore so as soon as those thresholds are surpassed then templates can help you to define okay i want the color to change or how to react in this visualization so as you can imagine this is really really useful to monitor our systems and various data i hope you liked this training if you would like to get more enablement materials please check out the links on the slide Also, stay tuned for more expert videos getting added every Friday.
