Extending SAP Fiori Object Pages with Adapt UI

Hello and welcome to this learning on Extending SAP Fiori Object Pages with Adapt UI. We're going to explain how to recognize an Object Page, what is Adapt UI, some prerequisites for using it. We'll give you a demonstration, some tips for working with Adapt UI, some key takeaways and some resources worth knowing. How do you recognize an Object Page? An Object Page shows the details of a single business object. For example, a single customer, supplier, order, invoice, document, account. Really, it can be anything. It has an object header at the top showing the most important details, and it may have one or more tabs showing details of the business object, and those tabs may be further broken into one or more sections to organise its content, which could be fields, tables, charts, again, really anything. It may contain some action buttons that can be performed on the current business object. It may contain navigation links to related apps or to other business objects. It can be its own app or part of another app, such as a Manage app. What is Adapt UI? Adapt UI is a Clean Core Key User Extensibility tool for making no-code, low-code, upgrade-safe extensions. It supports the most common changes most people want to make to SAP Fiori apps. A key user is a business expert who's authorized to make changes on behalf of other users. Key users use Adapt UI to quickly extend SAP Fiori apps. Adapt UI is very safe to use because you can undo/redo your changes or revert to a previous version including the original app. With Adapt UI for object pages you can hide and show SAP fields, you can add custom fields created with the Fiori app Custom Fields, you can combine, split, rearrange, group, ungroup fields, you can hide and show tabs, sections, tables or action buttons. You can change the configuration of tables, change the text arrangement of fields, rename labels, show or hide object header content and embed web-based content. You'll find there's lots of different options and the options available to you depend on your S/4HANA release. Before you start, make sure your launchpad is active and working. You must have been assigned the app you want to change and the app itself must be active. You must be authorized to use Adapt UI such as via the SAP_UI_FLEX_KEY_USER role or a custom equivalent. Quickest thing you can do is open the app and then check in the user actions menu if you have the Adapt UI option. Sally is a sales ordering subject matter expert. She has been given key user authority. She wants to adapt the standard Sales Order page for her business. She needs to work out what she can do. So she uses the User Actions menu option Adapt UI to start making her changes. First off, she'll see a reminder that any personal settings will not be available in Adapt UI. That's because she's making changes on behalf of other users. Press OK to confirm that she has understood that and then she'll be taken into the UI Adaptation area. Now she gets the offer of a UI Adaptation Tour to get an understanding of the main features of UI Adaptation. So she can work through that, understand the different tabs that are available the different actions in the shell header at the top of the screen she's quite happy to see an undo and redo features, the versioning features, and also to see that in More Actions she can get back to this tour if she wants to go over anything at any time along with the App Variants feature that we'll talk about later. Okay, she's had enough of the tour now so she'll close the tour and start trying out some changes. Having read through the tour she decides the first thing she'll do is go across to Navigation mode where we can run the app as normal, and just remind herself of what it was she wanted to change. So this is quite a an interesting app with lots of things happening, so she's just going to have a quick look at all the things that she wants to change and now let's go back to UI Adaptation mode to make some changes. She's just going to start from the top, but what she notices here is as she moves her cursor around the screen, that different areas of the screen are highlighted and different change actions are made available depending on what's highlighted. So that gives her a bit of a clue as to what can be changed. So essentially Adapt UI helps you understand what you can change for the current app. She's decided to work top down. She's going to start by moving that Attachments button earlier to encourage her team to look at the attachments before they make any changes. That was easy - just drag and drop! The next thing she's going to do is remove the Reject All Items button because she doesn't want her team using that so she just clicks the button and presses Remove. Now at any time she wants to see the impact she can flip over to the Navigation tab and just check the app is still looking okay and as she wants it. On the header area she noticed there's these different facets, these different areas of the header, and that Credit Limit Utilization chart - not so important - so she wants to push that to the rightmost area. Again just drag and drop. Now she notices if she selects the whole header area she can add a facet and there's a a hidden facet there for approval. Ah okay and she sees what that looks like. Yes, and now she can drag and drop that into place. She thinks about it and decides you know we're not really doing a lot of approvals at the moment so maybe I'll use that Undo feature to get rid of it again, and that again was just very easy - just steps it back. Now she notices she can also Embed Content in Header.  Now this is quite interesting, so she sees she can put in a website and maybe pass some parameters,passing some information across from the app. Now that's kind of interesting.  Of course she wants to talk to her technical team a little bit about that. She sees there's some more prerequisites for that, but it's worth noting and she's thinking: maybe we could use that later to perhaps display a map or an image to give a little bit more information about where the customer's located. Okay, but she'll just cancel out of that for now. Now she goes down to the Sections,  the Tabs, and she notices she can also Embed Content as a Section. Okay, so what else would she like to change? Okay that Process Flow tab now she's remembering correctly that was a really useful tab so she's just going to go over to Navigation and check it. Yes that's the one she likes, and it really gives a nice picture of where that order is up to so in UI Adaptation mode she's going to drag that, and make that the first tab displayed.  Now that Prices tab.  Let's have a look at it in Navigation mode again. Yes there's not a lot in the Basic Data area and she'd really like a little more information, so let's see what we can do there. So when she selects that area she sees she can Add Fields, and she'd like to add a few more pricing information fields such as the Customer Price Group, the Price List Type, and the Pricing Procedure. As an expert, that helps her make sure that the correct pricing has been applied,  and she can just drag and drop those fields into the order that she wants. She notices that that Customer Price Group it has the text of the price group first and then the code afterwards, but you know her team they know their codes very well, so she'd really rather see the code first so she has a look at the option to Change Text Arrangement. So here what she can do is say okay for any of these fields that display the Id and the Text she can actually say to change it to the Text First, the Text Last or the Id only so she's changed it to the Text Last, and she notices now she has to Reload to View those Changes. Okay have a look at that in Navigation again - that's what she wants here it is the code is now first,  perfect! Okay let's have a look at the General Information tab. Now she notices the dates are sort of mixed in with other things and she'd like to separate them out.  So she notices one of the things she can do in this area is Create a Group. So she's going to create a group called "Important Dates". She just gives it a name there, and she can drag and drop the fields she wants to display there. And once again, if there are some hidden dates, she can just select that area and Add Field, go and search for any other dates , bring in the dates she wants, and again just drag and drop to put them in the order that makes sense to her. Okay, so we're just moving those around. Very good! So what else would we like to do? Let's have a look at Navigation again to see if there's anything else we'd like to change. She notices that in the Partners section there's a table displayed, and the normal Table Settings button is missing.  She'd really like to see maybe the Correspondence Language, so she knows whether she needs to get translation services involved when talking to a customer.  So back in UI Adaptation mode let's see what she can change.  Here when select the table we can see we can change the Configuration of the table, and there's quite a lot of settings we can change about what features are available for the table: the initial Row Count; the Selection Limit ; and Scroll Threshold. But here she just wants to change it to make that Table Settings available so she just changes the Personalization back to "True". Okay, and then presses Apply. Yes, and all good. She can see here now that Reload to View Changes again and apply that okay let's see and yes the settings icon is there. So what she'd like to do is maybe default in that Correspondence Language, so let's go down now to the View Settings now that they're available. And she can see there the Corresponding Language so she adds that as a column and brings that in. Perfect, that's what she wanted. Okay so that's all pretty good. So we can see all of this is saved to our Draft version and what she needs to do now is Activate that version to actually apply it to the app. So she just presses the activate button in the header there and she'll call this "Sales Experts"...maybe "Sales Experts Version 1" and then just press Confirm. And, you should see at the top, yes! Now it says Sales Experts Version one as you can see now that the Publish version button is available to start the transport. Now she's not going to do that right now, what she is going to do is go to Visualization and just confirm yes has she done everything she needed to do. Yes here's all her changes and also there's even some "Changes not visualized" that she can review. So now she just needs to close out, cancel out with the "x" of the UI Adaptation mode to reload the app and look at it in its final state. Okay so the app is now working everything is good.  So now she can discuss that with her team, and she can always come back and make some further changes if needed. Now once her team are happy with all of that, and she's ready to transport it, all she needs to do is to go back into Adapt UI, select the Publish button and add it to the transport request that's been given to her by her technical team. Some tips for working with Adapt UI. So the first thing is: where do we typically make Adapt UI changes? So key users make those changes in the Development environment such as in the Unit Test client. If you only want to change the app for some users not for everyone, you have the option to save your changes as an App Variant. So an App Variant is like a copy of an app that can be assigned to target users as launchpad content, just like a regular app. How do you transport Adapt UI changes? Well you need to publish it onto a transport request that's given to you by your technical team. Your technical team will then manage the transports for you. Adapt UI lets you make common changes to SAP Fiori apps including Object Pages. It's safe to use - you don't need any developer knowledge. Changes are made in the Development environment and you publish your changes to make them ready for transport to other environments, which your technical team will do for you. If you need to make changes just for some users, save your changes as an App Variant.
