Fulfilling Orders in  SAP Commerce Cloud

Have you ever wondered what happens from the time a product is purchased to the time it is delivered to a customer?  My name is Tomasz Papiernik and in this video I will describe a typical order fulfillment process.  As you can see, a lot needs to happen.  Order fulfillment professionals will update the Inventory, they will source the products from one or multiple warehouses, they will create pick, consignment and delivery documents, and at some point, payment and taxes will be processed.  These, and other, steps are handled in SAP Commerce Cloud via the Base Commerce and Order Management Services modules. Let's have a closer look.  First, the key topic of Inventory Management. At all times, you should know how much of any product is in stock; and when to stop showing it as available. This is done in SAP Commerce Cloud using the Available To Promise, or ATP, formula.  In the Administration Cockpit, you can customize this formula at a local or global level based on different events that affect inventory such as increases, returns and inventory waste.  If inventory is available and a customer orders one or more products, the Order Management module sources the order. It looks for the optimum warehouse locations from which to fulfill the customer's order and determines how many shipments are necessary.  Out-of-the-box there are three basic strategies for doing this:  The No Splitting Strategy, for when orders should not be split up into consignments;  The Pickup Strategy for when orders should be picked up in store;  and The No Restrictions Strategy, where there are no location or splitting limitations.  In simple terms, each strategy is based on a set of weighted criteria that are calculated for each order.  You can rank and customize these criteria in the Backoffice Administration Cockpit.  As sourcing results are calculated, and order items grouped into shipments, the order passes through the pick, pack, label and ship workflow.  You can manage this process using SAP Commerce Cloud's Order Fulfillment Cockpit. At each step, you can generate the relevant documentation, e.g. consignment and address slips.  In most cases, payment is processed before the fulfillment flow is initiated, and taxes are applied.  SAP Commerce Cloud provides lightly configurable sample workflows and integration templates to facilitate connection to third party service providers, or PSPs. So, there you have it. A simple order fulfillment process in a nutshell. Keep in mind this is an example and there are other steps to consider.  You can do much more with SAP Commerce Cloud. In fact, you can customize and configure every step of the process to fit your business model.  That process is called Orchestration.  Let me show you a few other things we can do using the Order Management Module.  Let’s say a customer wants to cancel or return an order and receive a refund.  Depending on the state of the order, they can trigger this themselves via the storefront.  Or alternatively the Customer Support Agent can do it for them from the Customer Support Cockpit and the Assisted Service Module, or ASM.  Starting with the initial Cancelation request, SAP Commerce Cloud Order Management, enables us to calculate refunds, approve and cancel returns, update the inventory after receiving the returned goods, apply the refund, and reverse taxes.  And this concludes the video. Thank you for watching!
