Getting Started with Kanban Summarized JIT Calls - SAP S/4HANA Manufacturing

Welcome to today's micro learning session, where we get started with Kanban Summarized JIT calls. My name is Florian Kuppmann and I'm currently working for product management in discrete industries. In this video, we will get an overview for Extended Procurement and Kanban Summarized JIT calls. Furthermore, you will learn how to set up Kanban with Summarized JIT calls in your SAP S4HANA Cloud system. Let's start. There are three Kanban replenishment strategies. Replenishment for in-house production, for stock transfer, and for external procurement, which will be our focus today. For external procurement, we can use Kanban summarized jit calls, scheduling agreements, standard purchase orders, stock transport orders, purchase contracts, or additional replenishment strategies. The focus of this video will be Kanban replenishment with summarized JIT calls. Now we will look on how to work with Kanban summarized JIT calls. First the business benefits. Replenishment is triggered based on real demands in production, not on forecast plans. You can generate schedule lines from requirements planning as a preview. Summarized JIT calls contain exact delivery dates and times. For example, you can set that the supplier gets a JIT call twice a day. You can group several material requirements to one Kanban summarized JIT call, for example by plant, unloading point and supply area. Last but not least, you can trigger summarized JIT calls via classic and event-driven Kanban. How does the process look like? In the process, you first create a scheduling agreement with the supplier. Then a Kanban control cycle is created and the MRP runs and generates a forecast. After that, the Kanban summarized JIT call is triggered. The system groups the calls and transmits them to the supplier. When the supplier ships the required goods, we receive an advanced shipping notification. Post-receipt, the goods get supplied to the production line. Let's jump into the system and see how the process is set up. But first, let me show you the applications we will use during this demo. First, we will take a look into the Manage Purchase Scheduling Agreements app to look at a scheduling agreement prepared for the summarized JIT calls. Then, we will look at the important steps while creating a Kanban control cycle and prepare it for the first JIT call. In conclusion, we will check our Kanban cycle and simulate one Kanban container rotation in the Kanban board. Please keep in mind that this can also be done in the Scanner app. We are now in our SAP S4 HANA Cloud System and in the Manage Purchase Scheduling Agreements app. When creating a scheduling agreement or editing an assisting one, we have to change a few things to make sure the Kanban Summarized Date Call is working with this agreement. We will now jump into the material RM2334. In the contract item, the Kanban indicator has to have the status scheduling agreement for summarized JIT call, so the material is prepared for the JIT call. With this done, we can jump into the next app, the Manage Kanban Control Cycles app. In this app, you can create or change your Kanban control cycles. If you are not familiar with this app, please make sure to watch our last microlearning, where you learn how to create your first Kanban control cycle. For our plant 1010, we have several control cycles for different supply areas. We will take the one with the material RM2334 for this demo. In the control cycle, we can see that all mandatory fields are already filled like number of Kanbal containers, quantities, etc. We have to make sure that one thing is prepared for the JIT call. In the External Procurement tab, we have to fill in the code PDA7, which stands for the Summarized JIT Call. We now have to specify the purchasing org, supplier and scheduling agreement. After filling in our agreement number from before, you can see that our scheduling agreement is now linked to the command control cycle. In addition to that, we have to check the tab Flow Control to make sure that you choose a JITCore profile to group your requirements. In the command board, we can now overwatch our created control cycle. We can see the common containers, some of them are in status full and some of them in empty. Now, let's do one rotation for container 153, which is currently full and used in the production line by the production operator. When all parts of the container are consumed, we will set the container status to empty to request the replenishment. Keep in mind that this can also be done with a scanner, with our scanner app or with sensors in our plant. The system will transfer the JIT Core to the supplier and the supplier will send us the needed material. The Kanban container will switch its status to in transit when receiving an advanced shipping notification from the supplier. When the goods are delivered and the Kanban container is refilled, the status will change to full again and we are right back at the beginning. During this microlearning, you have got an overview for external procurement with Kanban, learned about the benefits and functions of Kanban Summary Street Calls, and you are now able to create your first Kanban Summary Street Call in the system.
