Getting Started with SAP Joule for Developers – PET 2026

Hello everyone, it's my great pleasure to deliver today's presentation, getting started with SAP Joule for Developers. First, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Tony Yang, and I'm part of the S/4HANA Regional Implementation Group, CUP Architecture and Operations Team. I work as a solution architect. My team provides the customer care for S/4HANA projects to global customers. My scope covers analyze project issues, tracking remediation progress, and conducting knowledge transfer delivered through boot camps, public video calls like this session, and other relevant channels. Here is today's agenda, which consists of three sections. First, I will work you through the core concepts and scope of Joule for Developers. Second, I will cover the three platforms built for Joule for Developers, like above environment, build code, build process automation. Last but not least, I will demonstrate several common use cases for AIR-WAN. Alright, some of you may ask, what is Joule for Developers? It is a unified offering for AI capabilities, featuring almost a full suite of AI coding assistance within the BAP environment designed for new implementation development, as well as the optimization and automation for the existing code. It also encompassed build code functionality in the business technology platform environment powered by SAP-centric large language modules. Alongside, build process automation that connects to SAP systems and integrates seamlessly into the development environment. The specific supported functionality are illustrated in this feature. Next, above environment, it includes the three use cases for the generative AI. like in Power, above-air SDK powered by intelligent scenario lifecycle management to this kind of above-client for generative AI hub in AI core. Next is Xcelerate. As if it grew for developers above AI capabilities, it can integrate it into the above-development tool. Right? Next is the most common use case, the transformation from ECC to S/4HANA, and then fully matched link code complex with ABAP cloud. It's integrated in the ABAP test cockpit and custom code migration app via BTP. So we have more explanation and introduction via the following link, ABAP tool for developers, AI capabilities, about AI SDK powered by intelligent scenario lifecycle management. So if you have the S-number user, you can access and check offline. Accelerate the details for Java developers as above AI capabilities. So if you are a developer, right, you want to develop above cloud readiness application and extensions more efficiently so we can rely on the Java developer with following features. We should release it from the 25.02. It includes Java Copilot predictive code explanation, above all CDS code explanation, above unit test generation, CDS unit test generation, above cloud application generation, The graph predicts the business logic of data service consumption, and the tangibility assistant. So I will show each small demo as following. So the products that support this kind of functionality include BTP, ABAP environment, Cloud Public Edition, Cloud Private Edition as well. in power a BAP AI SDK powered by intelligent scenario management so if we want to integrate the AI capability into our existing custom code we need a refer to some external AI tool as well just as the AI agent we can rely on AI SDK powered just like central standard is access to generative AI hub in SAP AI core, used by SAP for above AI functionality, and it's easy to configure, easy to consume. So the product support for this kind of functionality not only includes the above BTP, above environment, public cloud, public cloud, but also it includes on-premise version as well. from 2025, release version 2023 or 2021. But there is a critical prerequisites, which means all these kind of OP customers need to sign the rise with SAP, this kind of contract. Okay. Next is the transformation. Drew for developer AI capabilities, is we, as a developer, need to analyze, understand, and efficiently adapt classic ABAP code to S/4HANA and the clean core templates. Normally, in the project, the scope is this kind of Cloud Private Edition. We have to focus on the custom code analysis and adaptation to S/4HANA embedded ABAP development And two for Eclipse, just like a dual corporate documentation chat for custom code migration to S for HANA, explain of legacy code, focus on report categories, and explain for ADC findings, just like simplification issues, a code proposal for the code adaptation. So this kind of products support above functionality, just as the cloud, private cloud. We also call it a rights environment. So next is the license, which we need to achieve this kind of functionality for Druva developer. So it's free of charge promotion until September 2026. So all the customers, if you have the BTP license, right you can apply this kind of functionality for developer so here you can see from customer perspective you will get you will get a number and from partner point of view you have another subscription options the products support you where BTP of our environment, Cloud Public Edition, and Private 2025 Edition. Okay. Next, build code. If we need an integrated AI for the protocol development, here you can see we have this kind of generative full-stack applications from scratch, generated application and business logic. Support UI5-freestyle application development, generate an application UI, and the drill is infused within SAP build available through the chat panel in all environments. Dedicated commands for generating full-stack application and customizing mobile applications. Action buttons to generate the unit test, reflector, and explain code. So this from the SAP Business Application Studio on SAP BTP environment, okay? Next is the build process automation on BTP. So here, if we have BTP accessing and we need to just get some automated processes and tasks within the drag-and-drop simplicity. We can rely on this kind of functionality, SAP and third-party software integration. We call it an integration suite or Cloud PI. If we have the business progress insights and transformation, we can rely on SAP signal-level solution. And if we have the, you know, previously introduced the raw code, via SAP Build Code, or we have the SAP Build WorkZoon. All these, we can combine them into the pre-built processes and automations. It can cover this kind of processes and workflows, especially focus on that forms and a mighty step, progress, task automation, unified, launched, and task center, process, visibility, and flexibility, document understanding, private contact, business rules, and the decisions. So all this, just like some modern workflow, we can rely on the build process automation. Yeah, I will show all kinds of demonstrations here. So first, let's go to this one. This one actually is the predictive code planation. So let's say once we have a program on above development 2, we will see how we can rely on the drawer for developer functionality can help us to complete the target source code. Here you can see once we right-click the functionality, we need to add some specific code, just like this. We have to accept and reject this kind of proposal. If we accept it, we click active. So it's just finished. You can see it's more easier to operate, right? And quite easy to follow this kind of activity. So this is. Next is another AI capability. We call it a BAP unit test. Once we complete a simple report or any program, we need to try to unit test from developer point of view. Then we right-click the drawer and click the unit test functionality. Here we can see in the screen. It can propose some unit test scenario for our reference and generate the test code. Once we accept it and copy it, we paste into the test classes this part, then click active functionality as well. So that's it, right? It's also easy. Next is another test we call the cds unit test functionality so here once we have the our own customer cds view we can right click the name drawer run above unit test run the unit test functionality provide a name with the description right just input all the mandatory input field here If everything is okay, click next functionality, next button, next, and in the back end, it just generates something, then you select all the relevant functionality, click next again. Okay, there's a test scenario appear here, we just review it first and click finish. if we don't think there's an issue. So here you can see it's generated some unit test script. And if we accept it, we can just activate it. And then we have a try. The above unit test, after several seconds or several minutes, it's just come out the results here. Yeah, also easy, right? So let's go to next. Next demo, we can see it's just about the simple explanation for that. Right click and we can select explain. So this part is the code explain. The joyful developer can provide the general, you know, code logic from the source code just converted into the natural language, which can be read by human here. And then we have the insights, which kind of functionality this program process. So if we don't have, you know, legacy code handover from previous developers, we can also rely on Drupal developer functionality to get this kind of deeply understanding for the legacy code. It's quite useful. So next is another CDS explain functionality. Here we can see, once we select the target objects, it's just come out the source code of CDS. You can see it's a huge source code. Yeah. Normally, we are not able to understand the processing logic, so we need to rely on the the Druid for developer can help us to save time, get a CDS explanation. So once we just click the functionality, choose explaining, the Druid for developer assistant just provide the general CDS view, provides which kind of data to this processing and which table they read the data, which table they update the corresponding functionality. It's more easier for us to fully understand this kind of functionality, okay? So, next. Yeah, next is another demonstration. We can call it about cloud generator here. Here, we have the code explain again. Okay, it's another code explain. It's not only the whole report or whole CDS, it's just the partially logic for the CodeExplain. Here we can see once we specifically select a part of source code and right-click the CodeExplain, then the Joule developercan provide some details of the target source code, just like the condition, case when, this kind of scenario. Okay, this is the example for the above Cloud Generator, the transactional application from scratch. Whereas we just select one standard, one custom objects in the above development tool. Here, we have the chat, panel, input, what we want. If the Drupal developer provides the answer, we can review manually. And if we think we can accept it, just click the button Accept. It just provides the kinds of details of the processing results. And we can have another round communication with Drupal developer. So it can provide the follow-up, suggestion, recommendation for that. Generally, we can accept it. We have some configuration, we click the next button, yeah, and accept, finish, finish it, so that's it. and it generates the repository objects automatically. We click Open button. Let's just move to the next step. Here you can see. Wait for a while. Yeah, we have it. That's it. So, here we can see the traveling example, we already have it, and then we click the tree structure here, find out what we, you know, create, what is generated for us. yeah it's still loading sometimes it will take some minutes it depends on the code logic whether it's complexity or whether it's simple that's it and the next is the above ai sdk power the RSM, the Intelligent Scenario Left-Circle Management. It's just like an AI agent here. We have the predefined source code. Once we click the description, move to the transponding method. We can navigate to the details of it. And then we need to have some analyze or some processing about the message process here. Here you can see that it generated the travel ID, we input the tool, as an example, click the continue button, wait for, well, yeah, we have the UI, here the disruption just generated automatically we can adjust them and we can just you know make some change if we can if we cannot accept it otherwise that's it they just continue it helps us to save some effort for example generated automatically okay so next actually is the related to the build code we have some pro code need to handle. Here, once we, you can see it's different. It's in the left part of the chat panel in the Business Application Studio. We can have the developer available as an interactive assistant. So here we can input some description, some print from native from national language here, we just adjust some prompts, which kind of strategy files we will need and click it. Click it. Accept the proposal one, then click the structure, the data module, the service, which channel we need it. So it's generated this kind of data module service structure for us. help us to create some simple UI applications for that. Okay. Next is related to the build business process. And if we need a purchase, request and approve this kind of functionality automatically, we can rely on this part. Click the generate functionality. we input some print which we already prepared we need to ask the group of developers the AI like this then we click generate button need a several sessions or minutes it depends here the screen just move to the next level next page you can see it's just just like the workflow yeah we click the specific functionality and then there would be pop-up window pop-up message we need a input all the mandatory fields right depends on the functionality whether it's your crew or reject functionality and then we click the generate again. So we can see it's in the progress generating, the AI need to understand and explain the predefined process. So it provides several steps for us, for our reference. We just need the manual review it and check it. If everything is okay, we're back to the the main structure, click Save button. Before we save, we need to generate some details brimped as well. Here, yeah, zoom, zoom down a bit of small, we can see the entire structure clearly in this case. Okay, so that's it. It can just generate the whole process automation like a workflow. If you get some error or some warning, we can also specifically click the details to adjust them. Okay, so next is to generate some decision, predefined decision. We can refer to the decision tree or decision metrics we predefined you know if we need to approve or reject the request automatically come into our email box we need to have some predefined rules so we also manually maintain in the in the generator ai2 and then we can have the follow-up a similar decision or process within the support from the Druva developer, okay? Here as well, input the same mandatory fields, then generator rules, input the predefined prompt here. But we need a menu review, yeah. If everything is okay, here we can see we will check line by line and click generate button, wait for a while, okay. There it is. So the decision based on the different transition here we can say, that's it. And if we get some warning, we can skip it if without any error, right? Continue, click the generate again. We need to change the approval name into just like manager4.acp.com. Yeah, all the specific, you know, the different user ID approves. Then click Save button. So that's it. So all these kind of requests will have the notification to the predefined email ID address. Okay, we need to check the predefined rules, predefined decision as well. That's it. So next is the another part, we need to focus on the forms here. We click the generator and there are several selection for us, like forms script. So we also in the input, the predefined preempt, click the generator button. Wait for another view, so we have it. It's just like a basic form layout, here you can see. If you have, you know, SmartForm or Adobe Form Background Experience, I think it's similar, right? Similarly out. It's simple. So, after that, we just ask the AI Groover developer to create a purchase request form. Before we create it, we need to make the layout first. So here you can see we have it. Yeah, it's simple, fast. It's just retrieval the normal related fields from the batch hand request name department. So that's it. Next is we need to rely on the process automation to generate another script. Here, you can see, click generate the data type, okay, lastly, the data path here, we generate a weird print, okay, wait for several seconds, it generates this kind of approval data type here, and then we're back to the overview, generate the data type with the you know, another preempt, click a generate button, waiting here, we append, you can see we append some new data type here. It's pretty fun. Based on your actual maybe function specific, you can get this kind of data type. If it's already active, it's okay, we can use them directly. That's it, it's simple, right? So, next actually is the generate this kind of script. Here you can see the script is empty. We need an input, the corresponding request process input, just zoom up the tree structure, the purchase one, purchase two, here for us, Let's generate the corresponding print, reveal it first, yeah, if no problem, click Generate button, here, you can see the source code come out automatically, if no issue, accept it. Yeah, no error, no warning, click. Okay, next step. That's it, the script already here, and if there's no issue, we can also click the sale button for that. It's easy, right? Okay, so that's all for the simple demo.
