How to Create Guided Selling - SAP CPQ

Hello, my name is Pierre. In this video, I'll demonstrate how to Create Guided Selling. Guided Selling helps users find products matching their needs by narrowing down the products in a category based on the user's attribute value selections. I'll use the products in the Vintage Cars category as an example. If I open that category, eight vintage automobiles are displayed. If I view the Studebaker Champion, I can see that it has three attributes: number of Cylinders, number of Doors, and the country it was manufactured in. Viewing the product details for the Peugeot 202, I can see it has similar attributes. I've configured a Guided Selling configuration that relies on the fact that many of the cars in this category have values for these same attributes. As a result, the top right of the page features a link called Vintage Cars Guided Selling. Clicking on it brings me to the Vintage Cars Guided Selling page, which invites me to select values for the two attributes I've used to qualify the cars in this category. They're defined as checkboxes, so I can select more than one value for each attribute. Right now, with no attributes selected, zero products match. Let's say I want a muscle car, so either six or eight cylinders. When I select six cylinders, I'm notified that four products match that selection. Also selecting eight raises that number to five, as Guided search looks for either six or eight cylinder cars. But when I select 4 doors, the number of matching products drops to three. Which means cars with either six or eight cylinders, but only if they have 4 doors. Clicking the Show price ranges button allows me to filter by price. I'm feeling frugal, so I'll limit myself to cars costing less than a hundred and twenty thousand dollars. I'll click the View Products button to see what two 4-door muscle cars  fit my rather loose definition of affordable. Two cars are shown, one from France and the other from the US. Clicking on the compare checkbox for both brings up a Compare button I can use to perform a side-by-side comparison. So how did I get here? I'm going to go through the steps to define a Guided Selling configuration for the Vintage Cars category. That happens in the Setup UI, which I'll navigate to. If you’ve looked at this feature before, I should mention that these steps were updated with version 2102 of CPQ, although the broad strokes remain the same. The first thing I need to do is make sure there exists a configuration template for guided selling. Under the UI Design section, I will open the Product Configuration Templates page. I can guess that the first of these templates is the one I want, since it's named Guided Selling, so I'll edit it. CPQ knows to use this template for Guided Selling because its Guided Selling Template checkbox is checked. I'm now ready to define a Guided Selling configuration. I'll open the Product Catalog section and open the Guided Selling page. I‘m starting afresh, so I'll click Add New to create one. CPQ uses a page that has some of the same tabs as the Product page to define Guided Selling configurations. Only three fields are required. I’ll start with the name of the guided selling configuration, in this case Cars Guided Selling. in this case Vintage Cars Guided Selling. Notice that the System ID, the second required property,  is automatically filled in using what I entered for the name.  The third required property is the Product Category, which sets the category this configuration will apply to. Since this is about vintage cars, I'll pick the Vintage Cars category  before clicking the Save button.  As we saw earlier in the example, the process of guided selling involves offering the user one or more attributes common to many items in the category. Selecting one or more attribute values helps CPQ narrow down the category’s products. Which means we need to define those attributes. It’s not necessary that they apply to every product in the category, just those products you want filtered by the Guided selling process.  I'll switch to the Attributes tab, and add the two attributes I demonstrated earlier, Cylinders and Doors. To make things more interesting, I will also add a third attribute, Made In, which is the country each car was manufactured in. Now by default, each attribute is displayed as a drop-down selector, which will limit the user to a single value. However, since I'd like the user to be able to filter cars having, for example, either six OR eight cylinders, I'll edit each attribute and change its display type to Checkbox. Using OR logic makes sense for attribute values like cylinders, but wouldn’t work as well for an options attribute with values like air conditioning and cruise control. In that instance, I might want to only include cars that have both options, using AND logic. I can pick between OR and AND logic back on the first page, by selecting one of the two values available for Item Filter Criteria. Oh, and while I’m here, I can control how guided selling results will be segmented by price.  How many price ranges should be offered? The default here is three. So do I want each price range to be roughly the same size, or do I want CPQ to size each price range so all ranges have more or less the same number of products in them? I can pick between these approaches right here. I’m almost done. Before I can use this guided selling page, I have to define how to display each property to the user. I’ll navigate to the Layout tab, display each attribute I defined, and set what order they appear in. Since I defined three attributes, I’ll have three filtering options: Cylinders, Doors, and Country of manufacture. Now I’m ready to try it out. I return to the user view, visit the Vintage Cars category, and click the Vintage Cars Guided Selling button. I can see the three filtering criteria I just set up. Now I can search for a 2-door coupe made in the US; there are two. After clicking the View Products button,  here they are. But what about if I want to narrow my selection based on continent rather than country of manufacture? Sure, I could select both France and Sweden  to filter out cars not made in Europe, but what if I had all the countries in Europe in the list? That’s a lot of checkboxes. A better approach would be to create two subcategories of Vintage Cars, and assign US and Canadian cars to the North America subcategory, and Europe-made cars to the Europe subcategory. I can then use these subcategories  as a filtering criterion.  Here’s how. I created an attribute called Region, which I will now add to my Vintage Cars Guided Selling configuration. When I edit it, I can see that the Region attribute’s values  are the strings Europe and North America. Those values can’t be used to filter cars, because none of the cars have a Region attribute. That’s okay, because I’m going to use Region as a category selector. Notice the property 'Use Attribute Only to Select in which Categories Values will be Searched'.  Just ignore the terrible spelling and watch what happens when I toggle this property. The attribute values gain an action, which is to select a category. Meaning that when the user selects the Europe value, I want to limit guided selling to only those cars in the Europe subcategory. The same goes for North America. We once again navigate to the layout tab, where we add the region drop-down. After saving the configuration, I return to the catalog and look for two-door cars. I now have the option to limit my selection to only European cars, or only North American cars. When I view the filtered cars, I see one Canadian and two American cars. Thank you for watching.
