Identifying Dashboards in Dynatrace for SAP Commerce Cloud

Hello everyone.  In this video, we will discuss some  Dynatrace dashboards available  for SAP Commerce Cloud.   Dynatrace in SAP Commerce Cloud  provides a set of dashboards  preconfigured by Dynatrace and SAP,  as we can see in this screenshot.  Each dashboard contains a collection of tiles and visualizations built atop collected and calculated metrics of the applications and infrastructure running in SAP Commerce Cloud for that specific subscription.   Dynatrace provides several preconfigured tiles  in addition to a few configurable tiles  that can be customized to visualize  the metrics that are most relevant  to users of the dashboard.   It also provides the flexibility  for a customer to create custom dashboards  to combine real-time visualizations  of the most important metrics.  With respect to the SAP Commerce Cloud environment, SAP provides a set of default dashboards  that are very useful for visualizing and monitoring the collected metrics. Some of the most commonly used SAP dashboards are listed here.   These are some of the most popular dashboards used by several customers  which enable them to visualize business metrics,  system performance, infrastructure usage  and the health of underlying Kubernetes resources. We will take a look at these dashboards  in detail in the upcoming demo.   We will explore a special demo environment  for demonstrating Dynatrace dashboard features.  The Dashboards node is located  in the “Observe and Explore” section.   It can be added to “Favorites”  by clicking on the adjacent star icon.   Upon clicking the Dashboards link,  we can see the default set of Dynatrace  and SAP dashboards.   Here, we can see some quick filtering options  that allow us to narrow our search  for specific dashboards.  There is also a “Filter by Search” box at the top of the search window  for locating specific dashboards  based on their name, owner, tag field(s), etc.   For us to filter only “SAP” dashboards,  we can select the “Owner” option,  then select “SAP”.    In this demo environment, we have 11 SAP-preconfigured dashboards  as is evidenced by the Preset tag attached to these dashboards.  For each dashboard on the list,  you can see its popularity  i.e., how often it is used, modified time, and owner.    You can click on the star icon  on the first column of the table to add it to the favorites section,  which promotes it to the top of the list.   As you can see, the eCommerce insights dashboard can now be found at the top of the list.  We can also export a dashboard from this environment  to other environments using the export option.   Conversely, we can import existing dashboard files exported from other environments using the “import dashboard” option.    We can also create a new dashboard from scratch.  Now, let us explore the “eCommerce Insights dashboard”.  This dashboard provides several insightful store metrics  to gain a deeper understanding of a business,  through various tiles representing different key metrics.  This includes revenue breakdown,  average value of  and average number of items per order,  number of new user registrations, etc.   This also provides an overview  of the sales funnel,  number of orders, and other metrics related  to page views, most-popular products, etc.,  as can be seen in the tiles.   Next, is the Performance Monitoring dashboard, a go-to dashboard for evaluating  the performance of your system before and after a go-live.   This displays information about different key performance parameters  like throughput, response times, server-side failure rates, etc.,  for different services like the Web Services API, JS Apps, Backoffice, etc.   It also displays metrics related to external, third-party API calls,  e.g., payment-API calls during order checkout and their response times for easy tracking and monitoring.  This also provides views of database performance, displaying the DB connection count,  connection success rates, DB-request response times,  DB infrastructure usage, storage usage, etc.   Similar metrics for SOLR are also available.   We can see Load-balancing parameters  like Apache worker-pool usage,  JVM thread-pool usage, etc., in this dashboard along with some other infrastructure metrics.   Next, is the Load Test dashboard,  which is an extension of the performance monitoring dashboard  we saw earlier,  but with additional metrics to track and analyze the performance  of the environment during load testing.  This can also be used for tracking the overall performance level  of the environment.  Like the performance monitoring dashboard,  it has all key metrics related to throughput,  page impressions, etc.    But it has additional metrics regarding Apache load-balancing pods and SOLR, such as the CPU load and memory usage of SOLR pods.   This dashboard also has some key metrics concerning Composable Storefront,  like the CPU load and memory usage  of Server-Side Rendering pods, active nginx connections, etc.   Similarly, the infra usage dashboard provides details about the environment’s infrastructure resources.    The “Kubernetes monitoring dashboard” provides metrics related to the status of the Kubernetes processes.   There are a few other SAP-owned dashboards  in customers’ subscriptions which customers  can examine for further insights.   Now let us demonstrate the creation of a new dashboard.   To do that, click on Create Dashboard and enter a name for the dashboard.    We will name ours, “Demo Dashboard”.  Then we can select a tile visualization from the available list.   I’ll double-click on “Stacked Column”.   We now see a new tile of the selected type  added to the dashboard.   We can add a title to our new tile.   This tile will visualize the failure-rate metric of our services.   To add the metric, I’ll click “Configure in data explorer”.  We can opt for a predefined metrics template  that can be added and then modified,  or we can add a new one of our own,  which is what I will do for this demo.   We want to configure a tile to display  the “failure rate of services”.   So, from the “Select metric” dropdown,  I will select the “Service” tag to refine the list of available metrics.   Now, we can see the “Failure rate (any errors)” option  which I will select.    Then, if I click on “Run query”, a visualization appears, showing the number of failures  within the specified timeframe.    Then, I click on Save changes to dashboard,  which activates the tile with that metric.    We can now easily monitor this metric  from within our dashboard.   This is one of the simplest examples  of creating a dashboard  and adding a metric tile to it.   This concludes our coverage  of Dashboards in Dynatrace.   Be sure to
