Introducing Business Data Orchestration and Distribution Models

This video shows how to use the Business Data Orchestration and how the distribution models work. Business Data Orchestration is a service that runs on the SAP Business Technology Platform and is the configuration component of the SAP Master Data Integration Service. SAP One Domain Model provides a common model for exchanging data within the Intelligent Enterprise. SAP Master Data Integration Service is the data replication engine based on the SAP One Domain Model model and the business data orchestration. So how do all come together? The SAP One domain model is defined by all SAP products and used by the SAP Master Data Integration as the lingua franca for replication purposes. Then, based on the SAP One domain model, each SAP product integrates with the SAP Master Data Integration service. On top of that, we have a business data data orchestration component that allows a customer landscape administrator to define precisely what kind of master data needs to go to which type of application. Business data orchestration controls and provides information about the data distribution between the registered products. When we talk about the distribution of master data, what is it all about? First, you have a data provider, as depicted on the left hand side, and a final data consumer on the right. The data provider and the consumer are mutually connected. There might be several co-providers and several consumers, and not all might be interested in the same data object or data. This is where the filters come into play because they define which data goes to which consumer. The second important aspect is the distribution mode. The distribution mode can be either push or pull. It specifies the active part of the data distribution, which means who triggers the distribution. In the pull case, the consumer pulls the data from the provider. That is, the consumer sends a request to the provider and then it gets the master data as a response. In this case, it is crucial to know that the scheduler is on the consumer side. In the push case, it's just the other way around. The provider sends the data to the consumer. Therefore, the scheduler is on the provider side. The scheduler is one of the most essential functions in master data distribution with business data orchestration, and it plays a crucial role when master data integration service comes into play. So how to use business data orchestration with SAP Master Data Integration Service? Let's see the detailed process with the master data integration used as a data hub. In this landscape, the initial provider is on the left-hand side, and the final consumer is on the right, where the master data integration service is in the middle, and acts in both roles in the distribution process. It acts as a consumer when a provider sends data, and as a provider when the consumer receives the data. In the case of REST-based communication, the data from providers or the upstream client must be pushed, and a consumer or a downstream client must pull the data from the service. However, the process is different when using SOAP-based communication, which is currently only used by the business object-type business partner. In the case of using SOAP, the SOAP messages are also pushed from the master data integration service to the consumer. Therefore, the scheduler is on the service side.
