Introducing New Features for Product Configuration in SAP Commerce Cloud

In this demo I'll be showing a few features that we have added to the integration for configurable products in the Commerce storefront.  First up is the possibility to resume an existing configuration or start a new one.   Imagine I am a customer in the storefront  and I go into configure this home theater.   and I make a few selections  and then I get distracted so that I can't finish configuring and buying the product.  The next time I click "configure" for that very same product,  I get a choice of whether to resume the configuration that I previously abandoned   or start a new one.   So if I click "Resume" here,  I see all those selections that I made previously,  and I can just continue to make selections.  Or, if I exit the configuration. And start to configure that very same product.  And say "Start New", because I might have  discussed this with my advisor or my manager and I noticed all the selections that I made I need to change them and it's best to start fresh. So I click 'Start new'. and you notice that none of the selections that I had made are there.  Another feature that we have introduced  is this quantity stepper down here   So previously you had to configure the product and add it to the cart. And in the cart, you were able to choose the quantity of that product you wanted to buy.  Now, you have spend all of that time configuring that product and your use case is that you are doing that for 25 workers or 25 students and you want 25 instead of just 1 and you can enter that in the bottom of the page right away.  In this case, I have got issues but this is a different topic. This is about the conflict solver. So, I can continue to the cart and I have got 25 in my cart.  So the second feature I want to demo is about the the new kind of conflict resolution that we have introduced.  And this has to do with the different kinds  of configuration engines that we support.   The one that we have supported so far called SAP Variant Configuration and Pricing -  that allows for conflicts to add up while I make my selections.  For example here, I'm on the overview page for the home theater and this message tells me there is a conflict that I need to resolve.   If I click here,  the system takes me to a specially created conflict group.  Telling me that this type of Receiver Model,  does not go together with this type of Speaker Model, So, then if I make a different choice.  That solves the conflict. And I can then continue to configure the product Now this is a different type of product here,  which goes together with a different type of configuration engine - this is the AVC Advanced Variant Configuration engine.  The user cannot continue to configure as soon as a conflict. So conflicts must be resolved immediately.   If I configure this camera here,  I get this popup, this modal, that tells me I need to resolve the issue now.  If I click outside of the modal, nothing happens.  I can close it, of course.  as soon as I touch the product again,  the modal appears again and tells me to resolve this issue. So if I choose a different maximum ISO number, that resolves the conflict and I can continue to configure the product.  The final feature I want to demo  is about a scrollable menu that we have introduced for the overview page.  And that is especially for products that have a lot of selections.   You can see the menu here on the side which is also hierarchical of course according to the levels of options that this product has. And I have this little arrow indicating where in that menu I am situated with what I am looking at on the right hand side.  I can also use this to navigate. So if I want to see everything that has to do with the water pump I can click on water pump and that is where I land.
