Introducing SAP Commerce Cloud Composable Storefront

Hello everyone.  In this video, I’m going to talk about  what SAP Commerce Cloud Composable Storefront is,  what you can achieve with it,  and its main features.   So, what is Composable Storefront?   SAP Commerce Cloud is a headless commerce solution,  which provides a decoupled JavaScript  storefront known as Composable Storefront.   SAP Commerce cloud provides out-of-the-box  integrations with many other SAP solutions  and side-by-side extensibility on the Kyma  runtime through events, webhooks, and APIs.   Composable Storefront interfaces  with the SAP Commerce backend  through REST APIs.  No additional license is required  for Composable Storefront –  it’s part of the Commerce Cloud subscription.  In Headless commerce, All business logic and runtime data exist  in the “headless” back end.   The back end expects all interaction  to be through REST API calls.  Commerce Cloud provides a wealth of features  that can be accessed this way.  The “head” fetches information  from the headless back end and posts transactions to the headless backend.  A “head” can be. A browser-based JavaScript app, namely,  Composable Storefront.  a native mobile app,  a store kiosk, a smart device, or an IoT (Internet of Things) device   There are many benefits of the headless approach,  such as independent release cycles,  separate code and separate teams  or dev partners for the “head”  and the back end,  and it supports diverse touchpoints.   Composable Storefront is a “head”  for SAP Commerce cloud.  Composable Storefront is built atop  the Angular JavaScript Storefront  for SAP Commerce Cloud  and communicates with SAP Commerce Cloud  exclusively through REST APIs.   Composable Storefront is also the replacement for the Accelerator Storefront.   Spartacus JavaScript storefront  was also the “head” for SAP commerce Cloud.  You might be thinking, “what happened to Spartacus?”   Composable Storefront and Spartacus  currently share the same code base. Composable Storefront is the official storefront release from SAP based on the open-source Spartacus project.  Spartacus is the name of the open-source project,  and its source code is available on GitHub.  It will be continually developed  by the SAP Commerce Cloud team,  but we are very keen to welcome contributors  and to foster an inclusive, active development community for Spartacus.   Starting with version 5.0,  “SAP Commerce Cloud Composable Storefront”  is the name for the official release of the “Project Spartacus” libraries  published by SAP.   The officially supported Composable Storefront  is available only to SAP Commerce Cloud customers.   On-premise customers may still  use the open-source Spartacus project  to build storefront(s) for SAP Commerce Cloud.  Composable Storefront provides  a set of Angular libraries to quickly build  a browser-based JavaScript app exclusively  for the headless SAP Commerce Cloud.  This also allows it to keep only the required features.   So far, we talked about what Composable Storefront is.   Now let’s explore the main benefits  of using Composable Storefront  and what you can achieve with Composable Storefront.   Composable Storefront is designed  to be easily extensible and fully customizable.  It provides non-core features  via feature libraries  which allow you to easily add to or override  the out-of-the-box functionality.  Use Composable Storefront libraries  to add your own custom features and styling to create your own branded storefront.  This is the look and feel of the out-of-the-box storefront homepage.   This can be fully customized to create your own branded store.   Composable Storefront is a single page application (SPA). The first page loads once,  and the rest of the user experience is driven by code –  only the loaded part of a page  requires updating.  This provides good performance,  a good user experience, and supports SEO (Search-Engine Optimization) through SSR (Server-Side Rendering). Composable Storefront  is a Progressive Web Application (PWA)  out-of-the-box.  It implements Responsive Design.   It is secure and searchable and can be installed without  using an App store.   Composable Storefront is CMS-driven.   It fetches CMS content such as page structure, components (links, logo, banner, and images)  from the SAP Commerce Cloud backend.  CMS Content is managed through SmartEdit. SmartEdit allows you to preview and edit CMS content.   This same CMS content is fetched  by Composable Storefront through REST APIs.   Composable Storefront is hosted  in SAP Commerce Cloud  and deployed as a separate JS Storefront service which has its own, separate endpoint.   It is decoupled from Core Commerce  and can be scaled independently.   Commerce APIs are available via separate API services  and have their own separate endpoints.   Composable Storefront can be upgraded independently of Commerce Platform.   Composable Storefront is decoupled  from any backend,  and API-based microservices  can be used with Composable Storefront.   This allows you to easily customize  the out-of-the-box functionality  without having to customize Commerce Core.   For example, if you want to customize  product review such that it fetches review data  from another microservice,  then another API can be directly  used from Composable Storefront  without having to customize  your Commerce instance.  Composable Storefront is part of Commerce Cloud  and is the recommended storefront  for headless Commerce Cloud.   Or, you have the option of building your own storefront.  Composable Storefront can be hosted  by Commerce Cloud hosting services  and can be built and published like Commerce Cloud itself.  JavaScript Storefront code  is part of the same repository used by Commerce Cloud  to build and deploy.   Storefront code is placed under js-storefront.  It is not mandatory to host Composable Storefront  within Commerce Cloud hosting.  Hosting is optional and a JavaScript storefront  can be hosted with 3rd party hosting services  as well.   Composable Storefront provides many functional features out-of-the-box.  It is supported by SAP. It’s configurable and has many configurable features.   It is designed to be upgradable  while maintaining full extensibility.   You can achieve all these benefits out-of-the-box with Composable Storefront  without any additional subscription.   So far, we talked about what Composable Storefront is  and some benefits of using Composable Storefront.   Now let’s examine the main features  of Composable Storefront.   Composable Storefront has many architectural and functional  features available out-of-the-box.   Architecture features such as Server-Side Rendering, SEO, Routing, being CMS-Driven, Responsive Design, Site Context, and Localization.   It also provides many functional features  out-of-the-box for both B2C and B2B  such as Search, Product List, Product Detail,  Cart, Checkout, Cancellation, and Return.   This is the look-and-feel of a few of the out-of-box pages,  such as the search page, product-detail page,  Cart page, and Checkout page.   Composable Storefront provides many out-of-the-box integrations with other SAP Solutions  such as CPQ, SAP BTP, Kyma runtime,  Qualtrics, SAP Customer-Data Cloud,  and SAP S/4HANA Order Management.   Composable Storefront is SEO friendly.   Search indexing is supported  through server-side rendering,  where the complete page is rendered on server, then returned to the requester/crawler.  This allows web crawlers to index a complete page.  Composable Storefront supports SEO page  attributes as well.  Routing allows developers to customize URLs,  giving you more control over SEO  and storefront usability.   A site’s context parameters can also be changed. By default, they are language and currency.  This allows your site to use localized labels  and make everything translatable.  Styling allows you to style an entire storefront through the use of global variables.   Composable Storefront allows quick development of a JavaScript Storefront for headless SAP Commerce,  hence faster time to market.  No additional subscriptions or hosting is required.   It provides many functional and architectural features out-of-the-box.  It’s an extendable, configurable,  and progressive web application.   Thanks for watching the video.
