Introducing SAP Master Data Integration Service and Its Guiding Principles

This video gives you an overview of the SAP Master Data Integration Service and its guiding principles. SAP Master Data Integration Service is a central master data hub. Applications use the SAP Master Data Integration to synchronize the local master data databases with the master data database of the central hub. So, let's have a look at the SAP Master Data Integration Service. How does the service help to achieve the suite qualities goal? The main objective is to help business applications to arrive at a consistent view of master data. So, what does it look like in practice? Let's have a look at an example. SAP Master Data Integration Service follows a hub and spoke model, meaning that it is a central integration point that is available for all applications to integrate with, and in this example, we can see that on the lower left side, there's an SAP S/4HANA solution, creating a cost center and sending this cost center object to the master data integration service. All the downstream clients like the SAP Fieldglass and SAP SuccessFactors solutions can basically retrieve the data from the service. So, in this case, they receive a copy of the same version of the cost center object. What are the guiding principles behind the SAP Master Data Integration Service? First, we want to move away from the current situation, where customer landscapes are often very complex and challenging to maintain, due to various point-to-point integrations, as depicted on the left-hand side. We want to achieve a more centralized integration point that you see on the right hand side where the SAP Master Data Integration Service serves as a hub in the middle. This will lead to reduced maintenance effort since we only have a standardized way of integrating with this service and improved consistency because every downstream client gets a copy from the same state. It will also be a first step towards fully managed SAP integrations. Hence, this is a good step to reduce the overall effort in creating integration scenarios. The second aspect is the SAP One Domain Model. SAP One Domain Model is used as the lingua franca for exchanging data. In other words, it describes the models sent over the wire to the service. So, instead of each application integrating with another application where you would have to find multiple mappings between the different data models, we now have that each application only needs to provide a single mapping from the local persisted suite to the SAP One Domain Model. This way, the applications exchange the master data via the service. The SAP One Domain model is developed within SAP by getting all the lines of businesses and the SAP solutions together to verify that the relevant data is available in those models and to achieve particular qualities across these models. The third guiding principle is that the master data integration service should serve as a basis for providing out-of-the-box integrations. That is, SAP applications will come with developed and pre-defined integration into the service, so you only need to identify what kind of master data goes to what type of application. So that SAP can do the tedious work, whereas you define your businesses accordingly. This video briefly introduces the SAP Master Data Integration Service and its guiding principles.
