Introducing Session Replay in Dynatrace for SAP Commerce Cloud

Greetings!  Real User Monitoring, also known as RUM, is one of two fundamental constituents of Digital Experience Monitoring in Dynatrace, the other being Synthetic Monitoring.     RUM provides performance analysis in real time for all users.   The essential features include real-time analysis  of user sessions and actions, user experience ratings, and geolocation breakdowns.  These and many other features provide a 360-degree view of every user journey.     As Dynatrace is provided as the out-of-the-box  standard Application Performance Monitoring  Tool in SAP Commerce Cloud, RUM can be enabled easily.    Session replay records a user’s actions  and replays them in a movie-like experience.   It helps testers and developers to reproduce  production issues and malformed pages.   Let’s first browse in the electronic store  with the user John Smith.  I’ll login with the email address and password.   I check that my address is valid then  then select the Digital Cameras category.   I am interested in this product and click it  to navigate to the product-detail page.  I’ll add it to my shopping cart.   As another example, I’ll search for  “Professional” and click on a product appearing  in the auto suggestion list.   I’ll add it into my shopping cart as well.   Let me check the cart page quickly one more time, then I’ll sign out.    Now let’s see in Dynatrace the session  that has been recorded.   The recorded sessions with “session replay”  can be found in the “Digital Experience”,  “Session replay” node.   In the case of several sessions being recorded,  I can search for specific sessions of a user by filtering on the user tag via the filter bar.   Please note, if you use session replay for the first time, you will be prompted to install  the Dynatrace Real User Monitoring plugin for the browser you are using.   Once installed, I can select  the session recorded earlier.  I’ll see a big PLAY button and I can click on it.   Similar to a movie clip, the exact  actions are now being replayed.  We can see that the user John Smith logged in,  navigated to a category page, and further actions, which are the same one  that I performed just now.   During the replay, we can also focus on a  certain action to display more details of it.  We can see here the request, the duration, and so forth.  The timeline gives more detail for the start time, response time and visual completion.   On the top of the menu, you can see more  options, such as: whether or not to skip  inactivity, set the speed of the video,  or play the session in full-screen mode.   This concludes our brief introduction  to session replay in Dynatrace for SAP Commerce Cloud.     Thank you for watching!
