Introducing SOW Types in SAP Fieldglass

Did you know that you can enforce Statement of Work Rules  and Characteristics for your services Procurement types beyond the SOW template? SOW type facilitates enhanced controls over what characteristics, rules, and settings are available for certain types of purchasing categories, as defined by the buyer. Configuring SOW types in SAP Fieldglass gives buyers an additional layer of administration control above the SOW template. This not only enforces crucial elements of a buyer's services procurement characteristics but streamlines the creation process, overall. SOW type is setup via the SAP Fieldglass Admin menu. Therefore, only users who have access to manage the appropriate admin object via their assigned user role will be able to configure SOW types in the application. WorkingNet has three main services procurement areas, network engineering, manufacturing, and consulting. WorkingNet wants to utilize SOW types in SAP Fieldglass to customize the services procurement request process for each of the three different areas of the company. Here's how Anja, the administrator for WorkingNet would create an SOW type in SAP Fieldglass. Having logged into SAP Fieldglass, Anja will navigate to the Services section of the admin menu and select SOW type. Once in the SOW type admin object, Anja can view the existing SOW types setup for the buyer tenant. She then selects New.  Anja names the SOW type 'Network Engineering'. She can also add a description, and select a label set if there's any specific terminology that should be used for the procurement category concerned. Combining the details, clauses, and characteristics step will present the SOW transactionally in one page or step when a user creates a statement of work. During the creation of an SOW type, first, the template settings are configured. These are the settings that default when an SOW template is created using this SOW type. However, Anja has the ability to default, lock, or even hide the fields displayed here, which will directly impact what is then available to select or configure on any SOW templates associated to this SOW type. The fields in the template section include which clauses and characteristics can be used and SOW and characteristics rules. Anja selects Continue. Next, the form page settings are configured. These are the settings that default when a statement of work is created in the SAP Fieldglass UI from a template that is associated to this type. Again, Anja can default lock or hide fields included here that would directly affect what the end-user sees when creating an SOW. This page includes details, posting information, accounting, and additional rules. Anja continues to the Review and Submit page before confirming she wants to submit this new SOW type. Now that Anja has created the SOW type, she needs to associate it to at least one classification. These act as distribution lists between suppliers and a buyer's services procurement categories in SAP Fieldglass. she selects add and chooses the consulting classification from the list. Before confirming this choice and selecting Add. The SOW type is now configured in SAP Fieldglass. SOW types work alongside SOW templates to standardize the statement of work creation process, at least one SOW template must therefore be defined prior to creating a transactional SOW in SAP Fieldglass. Once an SOW type is created, it must be associated to a classification. Each classification can only be associated to one SOW type. However, an SOW type can be associated to multiple classifications. Generally speaking, most buyers choose to allocate ownership for creating or maintaining SOW types to administrators, while the PMO focuses on configuring SOW templates. There are many settings on the SOW type that will impact template configuration, so take your time during the creation process to carefully read all of the options. When you make changes to an SOW type, it will not automatically reflect on the SOW template, and it will only apply to new SOWs.
