Learn how the Final Due Date (FDD) calculation works in SAP S/4HANA Maintenance Management - Proactive Maintenance. The Final Due Date (FDD) enables the maintenance planners and maintenance supervisors to keep track of maintenance jobs that are time-critical and need to be completed before this deadline is reached. Since SAP S/4HANA 2022 and in SAP S/4HANA Cloud, the Maintenance Management solution provides a flexible feature to define the final due date and adjust the basic start date and basic end date of maintenance call objects generated from the preventive maintenance plans.

Introducing the Final Due Date Calculation in SAP S/4HANA Proactive Maintenance

Welcome to this microlearning video, where we will be discussing the final due date calculation in SAP S/4HANA Proactive Maintenance. Regulatory, health and safety requirements mandate the need to perform and complete the required maintenance activities for mission-critical assets within a fixed date. The final due date, FDD, enables the maintenance planners and maintenance supervisors to keep track of maintenance jobs that are time-critical and need to be completed before this deadline is reached. Where the maintenance orders are created based on a frequency or a cycle, you may want to make the definition of the final due date more stringent by assigning a fixed final due date. The basic start date and the basic end date can be changed with the final due date as the reference point. Since SAP S/4HANA 2022 and in SAP S/4HANA Cloud, the maintenance management solution provides a flexible feature to define the final due date and adjust the basic start date and basic end date of maintenance call objects generated from the Preventive Maintenance Plans. Using FDD, you can get a report of the preventive maintenance orders that have not been completed by the final due date. Let's create a maintenance plan in SAP S/4HANA. For this, we can use the Manage Maintenance Plans Fiori app. On the tile, you can already see real-time insights about the plans. First, we define the plan description, the category and the plan type. With clicking on the Create button, we jump to a screen where we can maintain the details. Here, we can directly create a maintenance item. To do so, we maintain the reference object and select the exact technical object, which is in this example a cooling water circulation pump. Next, we assign a task list to the maintenance item. We could have selected a reference object task list as well. In the maintenance item details, we select the order type to be created, the priority, and we have just arrived to the main topic of this video, the final due date calculation. The compliance check by offset option means that based on the offset days maintained in the maintenance item, the basic start date and basic end date of the maintenance order generated from the maintenance plan is adjusted. Please note, the offset days for a maintenance item is different from the cycle offset that is defined for a maintenance plan, which starts the maintenance plan after the offset is reached. Please note, this feature for compliance calculation is only available in the Manage Maintenance plans and Manage Maintenance Items Fiori apps. The compliance check by offset is available only for single cycle plans with the category as maintenance order. When this calculation method is selected, two fields are enabled on the screen, Start Offset in days and End Offset in days. The final due date, basic start date and basic end date are calculated and updated based on the start offset days and the end offset days maintained in the maintenance item. The maintenance order that is generated will derive the following basic start date and basic end date. Basic start date will be equal to the planned date minus start offset in days. The basic end date will be equal to the planned date minus the end offset in days. The final due date will be equal to the planned date. In our example, the planned date will be the 5th of December, so the basic start date will be the 30th of November, and the basic end date will be the 2nd of December. As a next step, we maintain the maintenance plan details and schedule the plan. With this, we get our previously presented dates in our call object, which is a maintenance order. Defining the start offset days and end offset days in the maintenance item enables the maintenance planners to create a proactive maintenance order with a buffer period applied to the start and end dates of the maintenance order. This can ensure that the work is completed ahead of the original planned date. The possibility to define the offset-based calculation for strategy-based maintenance plans will be available in future releases.
