Mapping a Payment Authorization Reversal in Open Payment Framework

Hello, in this video, we will learn how to map a payment authorization reversal in the case of an order cancellation before shipping of the order.  When a customer places an order, funds are initially blocked, rather than immediately transferred.  The actual transfer doesn't happen until the payment is captured.  If a customer cancels the order prior to the transfer of funds, the process is not a refund.  Another transaction type is needed to once again unblock the funds and free them up for the customer's use.  This transaction type is an authorization reversal.  To cover this scenario, we will map an authorization reversal.  First, we need to make sure that we are using authorizations as our capture method, which you can see in the basic configuration information.  To edit this, we can go to the Edit Capture Method button in the top right, but do not need to do so in our case.  For our demonstration, we are using Stripe as a payment service provider.  As can be seen in the Stripe documentation, to unblock funds, a payment intent needs to be canceled.  We will copy this URL information and use it in our mapping back in the Open Payment Framework Workbench.  Here, we want to configure an authorization reversal request.  This reversal request is a POST.  The request URL needs to be directed to API endpoints.  This is where we need to paste the URL we just copied, remembering to remove the static value ID and replace it with the applicable payment service provider authorization reference.  The request content type needs to be set to URL encoded, but there is no actual content that needs to be added.  For the response, we will be using JSON and select the content type accordingly.  We can find the needed code snippet on the Stripe documentation page.  Note here that there is a status called cancelled.  This JSON needs to be copied into our response content in the OPF workbench.  With this done, we can generate the fields to map our response.  We need two gateway fields, one for ID, and one for the status, and need to map the value cancelled.  Lastly, a new authentication method needs to be selected.  Again, we have a demo setup for Stripe, and this will obviously vary in your own projects.  After saving our work, it is time to test whether the authorization reversal works as intended.  We already have an order created and can verify that the authorization transaction worked correctly, and the funds have been blocked for the customer.  In the OPF Workbench, under Transactions, we can search for our order using the order ID, for which we have noted the order number.  Here we can see that the authorization has been accepted, meaning the funds have been blocked.  If we open the transaction, we can now copy the PSP reference and switch to Stripe.  In Stripe, we can see our order, with the timeline confirming that payment has been authorized, but not yet captured.  In other words, the funds are now blocked, but not yet transferred.  On the SAP Commerce Cloud storefront, we can also see that our order has not yet been fulfilled.  We therefore still have the cancel option, which we are going to choose.  Once again, it's time to switch to the open payment framework and the transaction we were looking at earlier.  With the order canceled, we will now be able to see a reversal transaction if we reload the information under Linked Transactions using the Actions menu in the top right.  The reversal transaction is now visible with the status Accepted.  We can open the transaction for more details and copy the transaction ID.  Under the Payment Interaction tab, we can search the request logs for our transaction using the copied ID.  Here we can find details of the transaction, including the response body containing the new status of canceled.  Switching back to Stripe, the change is now also visible with our payment service provider, meaning the blocked funds will now be made available to the customer again.
