Monitoring Hosts Performance in Dynatrace for SAP Commerce Cloud

Hello! In this session, I will show you how to monitor the performance of hosts in your SAP Commerce infrastructure  using Dynatrace.  Access the Dynatrace instance configured for the selected environment.  Expand the Infrastructure Observability section in left navigation menu  and select Hosts to navigate to the Hosts page.  The Hosts page displays a list of predefined filters on the left side  and the list of all the hosts along with their key   attributes on the right side. You can also add a filter condition by typing a filter category or a filter name  in the search box.  In Commerce Cloud, the hosts consist of Azure virtual machines hosting Kubernetes-managed containers. Select one of the hosts in the hosts table to open that host's overview page.  It displays all the important host metrics in a single page.  The top section of this page is the Notification Bar,  that contains an overview of the host’s state.  Clicking on a notification item will slide in a panel providing more details of the selected item.  The Problems panel will display any problems associated with that host within the timeframe selected here.   The Notification Bar is followed by the key information area that displays the uptime, current CPU usage, available memory etc.  This section is followed by the Host Performance section that provides charts on CPU, memory and network activity.  These charts can be customized by updating the timeframe or changing the aggregation metric.  The Process Analysis section helps viewing the CPU and Memory Usage for a process.  Start typing a process name in the Filter by search box.  It will start showing matching processes.  I'll type solr, for example  and you will see the matching processes.  I can get further insights on a process by clicking on a process name in the Process instance snapshots section  and get to a process details page.  This page provides a graphical view of the Solr process with details such as available and busy threads, incoming requests, memory used, incoming and outgoing process connections and the process stack. I can get next level information by selecting the JVM Metrics or Further Details panel.  I can check for any suspensions or heap memory usage,   Eden space used, number of threads, etc. and if I click on Further Details I can get detailed information about the Java process.  The Disk Analysis  section allows me to to identify disk-performance bottlenecks. to identify disk-performance bottlenecks. I can observe disk-space usage  and throughput along with other metrics. I can drill down further by expanding a disk entry.  Over here, I can check the disk latency, throughput, space usage, etc.  The Network Analysis  section can be used to locate network related issues quickly. I can check for packet loss, arrow packets, and connection timeouts.  I can select various other statistics and check their details.  Container-level metrics are conveniently available in the Container Analysis section.   The default charts showcase CPU and memory metrics across containers.  Filtering by a container name updates the charts for the selected container.  Further Container Level Details are available by clicking on a container name in the subsequent table. Over here, I can see that this container was selected and its memory usage and available infrastructure can be seen over here.  The Memory Analysis section  is used to analyse memory usage,  page faults and swap file usage. If I change the timeframe, I can get a better sense of when the page faults happened.  The Events section displays host events that Davis AI has generated in a timeline view  to easily identify critical events. I will switch to a longer timeframe  for displaying event data.  Different event types are color-coded  for easier and faster identification and browsing.  We can browse further details  of those events.  The Log Viewer section is used to identify issues around a specific log event.  It monitors the host’s system logs.  This feature is useful for the Commerce Cloud Support Team for triaging issues occurring at the host level.  SAP Commerce Cloud runs within the containers, and its logs are  are accessible through the Logging link in the CCV2 dashboard.
