Platform & Extensibility - SAP Commerce Cloud

The core of SAP Commerce Cloud is the "Platform".  The platform gives Commerce its main functionality.  It includes a persistence framework for data-storing purposes as well as business, system, and infrastructure services. These services allow you to tailor your commerce solution to your business requirements and your existing IT landscape. In a nutshell: the Platform is the foundation for all capabilities delivered with SAP Commerce Cloud. The Platform also includes the infrastructure that enables the extension of the many features and functions of the commerce  solution. This concept is known as extensibility. Since the concept is at the heart of the SAP Commerce Cloud, we´ll take a moment to explain it in more detail. The features and functions delivered with our solution are packaged in modules.  A module is made up of a set of extensions and each extension within a module is an encapsulated piece of SAP Commerce Cloud. On one hand, modules leverage Platform functionality.  On the other hand, they enrich it with specific capabilities. For example: The Personlization module is a package that bundles all of the functionality to create website  customizations. This package includes user interface elements and all of the technical capabilities needed to manage  personalizations - such as web services, data models, logic, and an integration framework.  From a technical perspective, both the UI and the technical components are delivered as extensions to the platform.  You can either use these extensions as they are, OR modify and extend them according to your requirements. Alright, now that you have a good understanding of the platform and its flexibility, let's switch gears and look at accelerator  storefronts and some of their highlights.
