Quick-Starting SAP Advanced Financial Closing: Creating Tasks from Spreadsheet – PET 2026

Hi, in this video, we'll take a deep dive into a new feature in SAP Advanced Financial Closing, namely the mass creation of tasks based on a spreadsheet. This is available since our recent monthly delivery in March. Before we start, please take a note of this disclaimer. My name is Jana Kasselmann, I'm a Product Manager for SAP Advanced Financial Closing and happy to share this update with you. We'll take a very short look at SAP Advanced Financial Closing in general before diving right into the details of the new functionality and a demonstration of the spreadsheet upload. In the end, I'll share some further helpful resources with you. Let's begin with a short solution overview. SAP Advanced Financial Closing is our strategic cloud solution for managing the financial close. It's a hub for orchestrating and automating all closing activities in one global task list. allowing you to manage tasks across various SAP systems as well as the option to integrate third-party solutions. This way you not only manage your closing activities centrally you also have the audit trail and monitoring all in one place. As a modern cloud solution new features regularly come your way via our monthly deliveries. In the first quarter there were several exciting highlights namely the third-party integration option including an out-of-the-box integration with SAP accounting automation by Blackline. The new app for task group management lays the foundation for an efficient centralized task management helping you standardize your closing activities and making rollouts to new company codes much easier.  A higher degree of flexibility is granted by the new configuration option for the common field during manual status changes of closing tasks. And - and that is the focus of this video - you are now able to mass create tasks very efficiently by uploading a spreadsheet. So let's have a closer look at that. This feature was developed based on customer feedback and votes in our SAP continuous influence session. We understood that the initial creation of tasks can come with quite some manual efforts here we can imagine the following scenarios. The initial setup of a taskless template including all relevant task attributes and the setup of tasks with the values already maintained which are now required in different contexts for example to take things over from quality to production. Spreadsheets are a familiar tool handled by many end users with ease so with this new feature you will be able to mass create new tasks based on a microsoft excel template that you can fill with all the relevant task attributes and that is usable across the boundaries of taskless templates and communication systems. The creation of tasks based on spreadsheet is supported in the taskless template where it's also possible to create tasks from model via the upload feature. The upload in the task group template is available for web applications and notes and will be extended in the future. Let's have a look at how this upload option can help you today to create tasks in a productive context based on the setup in a quality context. So here I have two taskless templates with the same structural setup, one for quality and one for production. And let's say I've built up and tested everything in the template that's connected with a quality system. So I open the closing structure of that template where I've set up a company code with the r2r tasks and now inside this folder there is a new option available to export these tasks with all the required fields and in a spreadsheet format that can be used directly to upload it again. In this case we download all the tasks and if needed we could of course make any required changes in the spreadsheet now. In this case we want to take over one to one so we directly move over to the production template where we would like to insert these tasks. We now navigate to the respective folder that shall be filled with the task information we exported in the quality template. We edit the folder and to upload the spreadsheet we find the file that we just exported, select it and upload the tasks taking over all the attributes that were maintained and tested. It will still be possible to make any required changes here and on saving the folder we validate that the input is correct and we're good to go. Do you want to know more?
