Selling Solution Orders with Subscriptions in SAP Cloud ERP – PET 2026

Hello everybody! Welcome to Cloud ERP Product Expert Training H1 2026. My name is Rajesh. In this video, we'll go through the latest innovation in Solution Order Subscription Billing item. Please note that all the information shared is proprietary to SAP. Solution order management helps to transform customers' business model by selling solutions that includes physical goods, one-time installation services, long-term service contracts, professional service projects and usage based subscription products, which is integral part of order to fulfill process operation as part of lead to cash overall scenario. Today we are going to see few feature enhancements like support of validation during creation and simulation of subscription, support of auto-lock prices and credit rate elements, and support of alternate market currency from solution order let's go deep into each of the capabilities as part of subscription validation. The first one is validation extension point. So far there was no option to set any business rule in solution order subscription billing integration. The standard validation alone couldn't cater to all the customer needs and leading to a lot of manual activities once the subscription is created. What do we have now? We have a new extension point that let customers implement their own logic that runs upon every subscription create or modify event. It also provides an option to provide custom messages that is user and,  that is understandable to the end user who has created the subscription via UI or API. This immensely benefits the end user who now be unable to create invalid subscriptions and mandatory attributes based on business like subscription parameters pricing anomalies could be fixed during the order creation itself and preventing rework of modification activities. The validation extension point is available in SAP subscription billing tenant. Upon activation of the same, one would get such an error. In this case, the seat is not marked and the subscription parameter is marked as mandatory for creation of a subscription. Let's look at creating complete subscription in pricing aspect. We have seen that subscriptions that are created for long term is not immune to price change. In case of a pricing scheme change or a list price update, the subscription price is also modified leading to disputes with the end customers. Even though subscription gives a lot of flexibility in pricing models, it still is difficult to give credits and capture credits as part of the order creation process itself and not just as discounts. What is the new innovation all about? Now we have an attribute in the rate elements through which we can mention if the price can be auto-locked or not. With that in solution order we'll also have this additional column called as auto-lock price that clearly indicates to the end user if the price is immune to change or not. If the price element is both customizable and auto-lock users can still manually override the price that is negotiated discount till the subscription is made active. Once the subscription is active the price is immune to any changes in the further price list price or even in the pricing scheme changes. Earlier solution order only supported charge type rate elements. Now credit type rate element is also supported for one-time recurring and usage based rate elements through which flexible pricing models can be achieved which helps to build holistic solution bundles. Overall, the auto-lock prices gives a good pricing governance wherein one can be confidently updating the list price and know that it is not going to cause an impact. It also reduces the billing disputes that cause due to unexpected price changes. Through the credit rate elements, new revenue models can be created with the standard configuration. Here you already see the auto-locked price being mentioned in the subscription billing item itself. And in the price calculation view, now you would see both charge types and credit type rate elements. Support of alternate market currency. Subscription billing created out of solution order always used to take the default market currency, leading to manual adjustments in case of a need. Multinational customers require invoicing in non-primary market currency, which has no way to be propagated from solution order. By establishing this flexibility, subscription billing currently supports non-primary market currency could be added or could be modeled against the market and solution order can now hand over the transaction currency to be maintained as the main subscription currency. This enables our customers to sell subscription in their customers' preferred currency, also leading to seamless support of global customers and multi-currency markets leading to less errors and disputes caused by currency conversions. Here is the configuration that needs to be maintained in the market to support secondary currencies, and the transaction currency from solution order should be among the primary or secondary currency supported for the market. Let's look at the capabilities in the system. I have chosen a system in which the subscription billing extension points are enabled, and in this solution order I have purposefully not maintained any seats. With that I already get an error that the seats which is maintained must be a multiple of five. Let me try to give one I would still get the same error or if I even give zero, it would force me to create the subscription with particular number of seats. So let me give a good valid number with this I should be able to create the... Now the error is gone and I also should see some price for the recurring and I should be able to release this item now successfully With this capability one wouldn't create an invalid subscription thereby avoiding the manual correction later. Yes, now a follow-up subscription has been created. Now let me add another item of the same to showcase the other capabilities. Now I'm going to show how the auto-lock pricing really work. In this item, now you would see this enhanced new column called as auto-locked prices that would clearly give you an indicator that upon subscription creation if this particular subscription price would be– remain the same or would it change. So now in this case the one-time price is fixed and it is customizable. So before the subscription activation I can still change the price, and beyond that any change in pricing scheme or list price changes would not impact the subscription that is created. I have created a new solution order to check how the credit rate elements work. Here, I have added a product for which rate plan is modeled to have credit rate elements. Here, I have both credit as part of one-time and a credit as part of the recurring rate elements. This gives a lot of flexibility for the customers to model subscriptions. This flexibility gives you a lot of new business model ideas wherein you could offer customers based on various programs or certain marketing campaigns. Before I release this item, I would like to change the transaction currency to EUR because I know euro is maintained as a secondary market currency in the market unit A1 for US. with this, it is really easy for multinational customers to really do business in their currency. Once the subscription is created, you would see that the subscription currency is maintained as euros instead of US dollars in which we had created the solution order to begin with. I hope you liked the demo. Here are some useful links which you can use to get the latest information, learning materials and inputs. Also, you could actively engage in communities and reach out to our experts using the email address provided. Thanks for watching!
