Setting Calculation Run Preferences in SAP Incentive Management

Hello and welcome. In this video, I'll show you how to set Calculation Run Preferences in SAP Incentive Management. The Calculation Settings page allows you to fine-tune the behavior of the calculation process using a number of settings. You can control Calculation Run Settings through the System Preferences. To get to System Preferences, I'll choose Preferences in the Manage Setup tile. Next, I'll select System Preferences. Calculation settings allow you to fine-tune how the pipeline is run and the way results are executed. Generally, these settings are configured during system implementation. Reporting settings set the reporting options. Payment Summary settings allow you to select when to update the payment summary information that is displayed in the Payments workspace. By default, the system updates the payment summary information each time the pay, post, or finalized processes are run. Finally, advanced calculation options allow you to consolidate participant payments and enable processing units. Let's go back and look at some of the key calculation settings. Minimum Payment Threshold causes the system to generate no payments below or equal to the amount in the field. This can be used to prevent payments on very small amounts. However, the amount is still passed on to the next period as a balance. By default, this setting is set to zero. In this case, any negative values are stored as a balance. If Allow Negative Payments is set to true, this field is ignored and all calculated amounts, whether positive or negative, generate payments. By default, this option is turned off. If on-demand position processing is checked, Incentive Management loads each position as it is needed by the calculation, instead of loading all positions in the system regardless of whether the positions are active. If unchecked, all positions, including inactive ones, are processed. If you have a large number of positions, you can improve calculation performance by turning this on. Now, let's look at the Payment Summary settings. As we saw earlier, this section allows you to select when to update the Payment Summary information that is displayed in the Payments workspace. Payment Summary information can be viewed under the Supporting Details tab in the Payment Record. Since generating these details for each payment takes up processing time, you can improve performance by disabling any of these options. A common setting is to disable after calculating payments, but leaving after posting. Finally, let's look at the advanced calculation options. This message warns us to be aware of the effects of modifications. If Consolidate Participant Payments is enabled, deposit and payment information will be consolidated for participants assigned to multiple positions. If you enable this feature, you will not be able to view related positions from a consolidated payment. You can disable this feature only after all balances have been applied. Enable Processing Units reveals the Processing Units workspace and allows you to map processing units to business units. If this feature is enabled, calculations must run in the context of a processing unit. In addition to the period, the use of processing units is strongly recommended. However, once they are turned on and the calculation is run, it's not recommended to turn them back off, as this can cause data corruption. If Keep Posted Results is enabled, results derived from all calculation runs that produce posted payments are kept, even after the pipeline is rerun. This feature is not enabled by default. System Preferences should be set at the time of implementation and are persistent. In this video, we covered some common calculation settings that you can fine-tune using System Preferences.
