Setting Competitive Terms in Guided Sourcing Events in SAP Ariba

This video will review setting competitive terms in SAP Ariba Guided Sourcing Events. A competitive term within a line item is often a deciding factor when evaluating and awarding the line item. Participants will try to win the item from the opposition by having the best ranked response for the competitive term. SAP Ariba Guided Sourcing Events come with pre-configured standard terms. The competitive term is typically the extended price term, which is the price multiplied by the quantity or the total cost term, which is a calculation from a user-defined formula. Event templates define the terms that make up the line item and project owners using the template to create their event can edit these terms or add their own. Let's see what setting a competitive term looks like in the system. This procedure allows you to designate a term as the competitive term for an item and have responses ranked based on that term. To complete this task, you must have guided sourcing enabled, be a member of the category buyer group, and either be the event owner or have project owner capabilities for the event. First, open a guided sourcing event for editing. If the event is published, select the More Actions icon in the upper right corner of the event page, select Event Options, and then Edit Event. If you want to configure the same term as the competitive term for all items in the event, go to the Items That Need Quotes table and select the checkbox in the top left corner to select All Items, then choose the More icon next to the appropriate term and select Set as Competitive Term. After this, you must specify whether lower is better or higher is better. If you want to configure the competitive term for a single item or a subset of the items, You can open the edit term page for the term you want to use as the competitive term in the items that need quotes table. In this example, we will create a new term that will be used as the competitive term on one of my items. We will set it as an adder to the cost with the bid direction going down to reduce costs. In a line items information and rules area, the competitive term dropdown can be edited to select our new term as the competitive term. Configuring competitive terms in guided sourcing events is helpful if there are terms other than the typical extended price or the total cost terms. By following this procedure, you can effectively designate competitive terms for items in your events, allowing for more accurate ranking and decision making.
