Simplifying Logistics Outbound Process (Direct - LTL) Using SAP Logistics Management – PET 2026

Good morning, good afternoon, and good evening, and welcome to the Product Expert Training H1 2026. Today we'll be covering the outbound process of direct lessened transport load and SAP logistics management. Before we start, a short disclaimer where this particular presentation will contain certain forward-looking statements that are subject to various risks and uncertainties that could cause actual results to differ materially from the expectations. Hence, the readers are cautioned to not place undue reliance on these forward-looking statements which speak only as of their dates, and they should not be relied upon in making purchasing discussions. A brief introduction. I'm Saurabh Koyal from the Cloud ERP and SCM Product Success Organization within SAP, and currently I deal with SAP Logistics Management Product Success. I have over 20 years of experience in the area of transportation management, logistics, and other related topics. A brief agenda will cover the SAP Logistics Management overview today, followed by what is the output process in SAP LGM, and then we'll go into the details and demo of the direct LTL process. but first an overview. Now if you look at the right side of this particular slide where you have this short picture where if you see the y -axis represents a customer buying motion where you start from typically customers who are looking for modular solutions to the customers who are high on the suit adoption. Similarly on the x-axis what you see is the process complexity of these organizations where you start with the low complexities. Typically, organizations which have simple processes might be using sheets of papers of doing their businesses or Excel-based processes or relatively simpler processes to more complex and high-complexity processes like those involving robots and more complex processes. Now, typically from a solution fitment perspective, organizations that are high in process complexity tend to position the SAP S/4HANA private cloud. These may be requiring modular solutions or from a suite perspective, business suite they might be requiring. Similarly, if the process complexity is on the slightly lighter side, but the customer buying motion is more towards a business suit. We have the SAP S/4HANA public cloud. Now, what you see over here is the quadrant one, where there are customers which are looking for modular solutions and have relatively lower process complexity. So SAP LGM or the SAP Logistics Management is the new solution to manage these smaller local satellite operations of either those large organizations or independent organizations that can run along with the other solutions, that is S/4HANA public cloud or the private cloud. Now, SAP LGM is, as a process, covers all the three different topics, the warehouse logistics, transportation logistics and also the network logistics which is where it covers an end-to-end process flow from a business perspective for those organizations that are its go-to-market where when you have processes from the transportation side let's say around planning or a freight planning costing carrier selection peer -to-peer tentering for example or subcontracting to the warehouse processes like where you can receive the goods at your store or you can do a big pack ship workflows, you also have the option of a mobile-enabled warehouse execution. In addition to that, you also have the capabilities of freight collaborations using business network for freight logistics. From a process perspective, and specifically the customer profiles, the solution of SAP LGM is specifically catering to large enterprises who have smaller market unit operations and they want to connect to an enterprise by DRP backend or for organizations that have smaller warehouse wholesale distribution operations such as some local distribution facilities which are serving dedicated regions or dedicated operations. This is also relevant for companies wanting to set up some warehouses facilities flexibility or they are ramping up or tearing down warehousing to overflow warehouses or even to outsource logistics where 3PLs are running manufacturing or distribution warehouses where shippers require full stock transparency and process execution status. So there are different customer profiles for which SAP LGM is catering to and suitable for their operations and not just limited to them but to start off these are the key markets where SAP LGM is a direct fit. Let's look at the various operating processes that are supported in SAP LGM today. These are those five processes, and it's not just these five processes, there are variations to these five processes. So to start off, the first process relates to the warehouse where the business customer requires only the warehousing activities and there's no shipping involved so the code for the outbound deliveries are handled entirely using let's say the picking packing and staging operations you lgm also supports the processes of less than truckload and parcel shipping and the full truck load operations where you have let's say in the full truckload single pick single drop as of today is support for the purpose of today's demonstration we'll be looking into the less than truckload process and we go a bit detail into what that process covers. Now the outrun process of direct less than truckload starts with the end-to-end process where either we can do consolidation or it can be without consolidation of the codes. And thus the carrier directly delivers the freight to the destination location without any further shipment. The system automatically assigns a delivery to a shipment in this particular case, which is referred to as a consignment in SPL gym. It determines a carrier and using the determination rules does the freight entering. Once the carrier confirmation is reserved or the confirmed, the requested stays on the truck as well as a pickup date, details, time, and the warehousing activities can start. So you can look at the detailed process. You have, let's say, a sales or outbound delivery, which is available at the S/4HANA private cloud. which is transferred as a logistics demand to the SAP LGM system. Now, if you see over here, it's mentioned at quite a few places, A, which refers to the automated process that is not to be done by the user, but for the purpose of the demo, I will be showing you each of these processes and the steps, thereby so that you can get more clarity on how the system behaves. For the purpose of Direct LTL, we'll have a logistics demand that is created, and transportation requests, consignments, and the pickup documents, and the warehouse request documents are automatically created. As a process step, we'll be having warehouse tasks created for the picking, and once the the picking processes are completed, we can then ship the HUs to the subsequent processes. Within this graph, what you also see is optional process of SAP Business Network for Logistics, where the RFQ processes are conducted. I will also be showing these to you, and although some of these processes are automated, I will be showing each of these manually to you. now let's quickly jump over to the direct LTL process demo and see that what are the details of this process how it happens in the system and what steps need to be done for the purpose is this demo for the outbound LTL with consolidation what we've done is we've already created the sales order and the outbound deliveries now there's the screen for the LGM system and we directly run over let's say home, where you have the quick links available and some tiles for references and other key metrics are available. The outbound deliveries that have been created are available and are replicated into the monitor logistics demands. Now the sales orders that are converted to delivery and the delivery numbers will be the same as what we have for the logistics demand. So the deliveries that we created were we just search for them as you can see for the two sales orders that I have created respective logistics demands are now available for it what you can also see over here let's say if I click on to the transportation requests which I can directly navigate from here we'll see that the corresponding transportation requests have also been created for it as you can see the processing variant based on our configuration selected is direct LTL with consolidation cutoff this is based on the configurations that we have done and as you can see currently the process of consolidation is in progress so now as there are two deliveries and both of them are currently in consolidation it is in progress let's go over here to our initial screen where you can see both the transportation request also that's the same process that gets repeated 6501 and 6502 what you can also see over here is that the consignment they have been assigned to the same consignment now this process as i mentioned currently is under consolidation so either we can agree to it or we can say we want to complete that consolidation so let's go to the consolidation part of it in the manage consignment app and over here while you have all the details available like the shipping points the ship to party and the details of the items that are being transported we can say that we want to complete the consolidation over here once the consolidation is complete you can see that the consolidation process is changed to completed for automatic assignment and the carrier determination is currently in the tendering under tendering right now we go to the manage consignments as an app and with the manage consignment app you can see that we have our consignment 523 available in this the current status of this particular process is in open tender when you go to the tendering process you can see that you can either publish this or you can even edit this particular thing so let's publish this particular tender and you get the message that tender has been published go to the business network for logistics so in the business network for logistics we'll see to the go to the particular carrier as As you can see, there is one freight request for quotation. It's the same consignment number as a reference is available for us, and we can either accept it or accept for change, we can try with accept for change, mentioning that let's say proposal price is 200 USD and let's say I want to move it to a time of 11 PM. so just updating the times for all the movements except that the acceptance is completed the rfq number is created over here and we go back to our original system so I search for my consignment over here and I see that the quotation has now been received from the particular carrier. We can go inside this and we can award this particular quotation. So you can verify whether this amount that was available from the business network for freight logistics dates time and you can award or reject. In this particular case, I'm awarding the particular details and you see that the quotation has been awarded. Now once the quotation is awarded, Let's say I go back to my consignment, I'll see that the carrier has been assigned and the subsequent details are available. You can even see the details over here in my particular consignment. as of now and then i need to go back to let's say our business network for logistics we see that the freight order is available for confirmation so the same freight consignment number is available over here and we can now confirm or reject this particular order so the freight order has been now confirmed and we can go back to our original system and if we check over here, we see that we've received an update on our consignment that the freight order has been confirmed, the carrier has been assigned, and we can check the details if needed. At this particular point, we can also see the further documents, which is my warehouse request that has now been created for it. There are two options of opening the warehouse request. I can either open this particular app directly from here or from the home screen as I was showing earlier. Now the same open delivery numbers that were shown earlier are the warehouse request numbers also and the current status is that the picking process or the warehouse processes subsequently are not yet started. So let's start the picking process for the purpose. We can either do that automatically or let's say in this particular case I want to plan the picking manually so I create the picking task manually. I need to select the storage bin and the package bin over here so let's say I select of storage bin and for the package bin I select the goods issue area and I click on create. So if you can see my status of picking has been complete. we repeat the step for the and we repeat the step for the other delivery also where we need to start the ping process in this particular case let's say I want to select a different storage bin for the source and the delivery as the same GI area so the warehouse task for this has been created and the process is now available So now in the manage outbound warehouse update we need to confirm these warehouse tasks that was created. So we go to warehouse tasks and I can see this particular warehouse tasks available and I can select this and confirm. Warehouse task is confirmed. We repeat the activity for the other warehouse requests also in terms of completing the warehouse tasks. Once the warehouse tasks are completed over here you can see that the picking is completed. We go to the packing work center where we will pack these particular deliveries. As you can see over here we go to the packing work center where the processing bin is the same GI area that we have worked on earlier and let's say we select our delivery over here we still every is available we create a handling unit 635 and to this handling unit we assign the particular item. Similarly we check for the other delivery and we can assign it to a new handling unit, let's say 637 unit and pack the two. So once the two packing units, handling units are complete, we make sure these two are closed and dimensions was the handling units so once the handling units are closed over here we go back to our warehouse on one warehouse activities and you see for these two deliveries our status is currently packing is completed Once the packing is completed, we set the staging also to complete it. Now we go to our managed transportation request over here. In the managed transportation request, if you go, we have what we will see is that the assignment of the handling unit to the pallet is now completed. What we can also do now is complete our activities with respect to the pickup. let's say we search for our open delivery document in the pickup and delivery document if you see currently my processes are not yet started so let's say I start my process of check-in give the license plate of let's say a name of test name check-in complete. Once the check-in is completed the status is updated and we can complete the loading at this particular point and the relevant status and we also say that the carrier is departed. At each of these points if you'll see that there are events are reported which can be used further we can also further for as the last step of this particular thing we see that for both of these deliveries we can then do the post-gifts issue and this goods issue is reported the statuses are updated over here and let's say if we go back to our system initial system where we had our deliveries display of one delivery app and our delivery is you can see the in the picking status is it's updated our quotes movement is also completed over here we can look into the document flow of this particular document and we can see the details over here you see that the document has been created and if we click on it we can do a display document and we can see the material document details available with the destination location as the storage location for LGM that's all from demo side we'll go back to our presentation now now in case you would want to get more details around anything any other topics you want around learning engaging with the community and implementing we can get the details through the courses details help portals sling expert talks roadmap your other details are given on this particular slide for any details around cloud erp product success enablement options you can stay tuned for more expert videos that are getting added uh every friday on this portal and you can also check out our community for in case you would like to have any qualifications or any questions in case of any feedback or any questions do feel free to send out your mail email us directly to this experts on s4experttraining.sp.com that's all from my side for today have a great day thank you
