Understanding Interaction Contacts and Your License in SAP Marketing Cloud

Hello, my name is Andrew Simon and I'm the business lead for SAP Marketing Cloud Services. Have you been confused regarding the number of contacts that actually count towards your SAP Marketing Cloud license? In this video, I'll explain the contractual contact count and shed some light on the terminology used for different types of contacts. You'll also learn how to keep your license count in check. I'll give a brief introduction and talk about some of the terms that I'll use in the presentation. Then I'll go through where to find the number of interaction contacts that count towards your license. I'll then speak about some of the other applications that refer to interaction contacts, but are not directly relevant to your license. And then so recommended practices. So it is a contact in this context. Your license with SAP is based on the number of contacts also referred to as interaction contacts or ESI. And ESI can refer to either a B2B customer or a B2C consumer. And interaction contact is a unique, known or anonymous entity which interacts with your company, for example through a website. Social media or email channel contacts can be suspects, consumers, and corporate contacts as viewed from the perspective of their business relationship with your company. But technically, these three entities are the same. Anonymous contacts, such as cookie. Contacts from a commerce solution may be an integral source of interaction data, so be aware that anonymous contacts also count towards the overall license. There are two main methods to visualize the number of interaction contacts which apply to the license agreement. The browse contact data application in the SAP Marketing Cloud solution, and the Cloud Solutions Center app in the SAP One Support Portal. The only SAP marketing cloud app that presents the number of interaction contacts related to the SAP license agreement is the Browse Contact Data app, which is typically under the Data Stewardship heading. Note that you'll need the administrator role holding the business Catalog marketing data stewardship to access this app, and be sure to make it visible in your SAP Marketing Cloud application by using the app Finder. So what is the browse contact data? Actually show us the rounded interaction contact count as displayed in the top left corner. And the exact count is visible when you hover over the displayed information. The data in the charts, as well as the filters can be adjusted, so do be sure to reset and refresh the information. If you want to see the exact count in the chart. This count includes all valid 1,258,181 contacts, which are known or unknown interaction contacts flagged for deleted deletion contacts. And note that deletion of contacts is carried out in a two step process to avoid accidental deletion. First, the contacts are flagged for deletion and then they're checked and deleted. They're also obsolete interaction contacts or OIC. These are interaction contacts that the source system has marked as obsolete because they've been deleted. They're obsolete. Interaction contacts are not available to the marketing user for operations, but they are stored in the system until deleted. There are also container interaction contacts or CIC. These are storage objects that store incoming interactions with shareable IDs that cannot be uniquely assigned to a contact. Container interaction contacts are not available to the marketing user for operations either, but they are indeed stored in the system until they're deleted. Another way to check the number of contacts attributable to the license agreement, as well as to visualize the number of interaction contacts in the agreements, is to use the one support launchpad. You'll need your S user to access this. The App Cloud Solution center allows you to review this information as well as view the data related to your see for Hannah tenants. Note that if the app is invisible, you may need to add it using the app finder in the One Support Portal application, select the hamburger menu and then search for Cloud Solution Center and then pin it to your desired header area. By selecting this app, you'll see the cloud solutions available. Select the SAP Marketing Cloud and you'll see the overview page, which will display the number of contacts and the license status, as well as other information. The number of contacts under license status shows the interaction contact count as described before, the number of contacts authorized within the license agreement, and an indication if your compliance green or not. Red. There are also some other applications which refer to interaction contact counts, where they're not directly relevant to the calculation of contacts for the purposes of the license agreement. The contacts app is available to most users, but does not reflect the number of interaction contacts, which are attributed to the SAP Marketing Cloud License. This app reflects the number of interaction contacts which are available for marketing operations. They do not have interaction type of company. They're not obsolete. They're not flagged for deletion, and they're not container interaction contacts. Using the same system examples before the contacts app shows 1,251,968 contacts, about a 6000 contact difference using the Browse Contact data app and applying the correct filters, we can see the same information. The Browse Contact Origin data app also does not reflect the number of interaction contacts, which are attributed to the SAP marketing Cloud License. This application shows the number of interaction contacts before the best records are created. It's recommended to review your license compliance regularly, either using either the Browse Contact Data app in the SAP Marketing Cloud solution or the Cloud Solution Center app and the SAP One Support Portal to ensure that you're getting the most out of your SAP marketing Cloud solution. If you need more interaction contacts than authorized by your license, your SAP Customer Engagement Executive can guide you through the process of updating your license. Note that you see has access to the Cloud Solution center information presented before, and may take proactive steps to support you if you are nearing or surpassing your license agreement. You should establish a contact lifecycle strategy that includes regular optimization and data cleansing of your interaction. Contact data. This is a key component to maintain your license compliance and ensures that you're removing redundant, obsolete, or unnecessary contact data which do not serve a marketing purpose. For example, as part of your life cycle strategy, you may automatically delete anonymous contacts after a certain period of time. There's some great content@health.sap.com to better understand some of the applications that can assist you in managing your data lifecycle. I hope you found this presentation useful and informative. Thank you very much.
