Using Predictive MRP in SAP Cloud ERP: Understanding pMRP

Welcome to this learning session on predictive MRP in SAP Cloud ERP:  Understanding pMRP. In this session we will explore what pMRP is  and discuss potential use cases. Finally, we will walk through the pMRP process, review the prerequisites and required master data. Let's get started, predictive material  and resource planning, or pMRP, focuses on the long-term planning horizon. It's  important to keep in mind that it is not designed for short-term planning needs. Due to simplifications on its underlying data model. We will explore this in more detail later.  pMRP helps identify and resolve capacity issues early. It uses simplified  data and streamlined algorithm to evaluate potential scenarios, enabling production  planners to make informed decisions. Even when conditions change, imagine  your sales department informs you about updated sales targets of future-demand shifts.  As production planner, we'll want to understand how this affects your production in terms of material quantities and capacity utilization. Or your product development  team announces product changes that will impact your bill of material. You will want to assess how these changes influence your production setup. A third use case:  You manage complex configurable materials, but you want to plan components and capacity based on  planning bonds. And your own experience, pMRP will help you with that.  So how does it work? pMRP does not use the same data as MRP Live. Instead,  you can decide which data you want to include when building the reference data used for the simulation.  pMRP always relies on standard master data, such as the bill of material. However,  you choose which demand data is considered. For example, only saves orders, only forecast data, or a combination of both. One major difference between pMRP  and MRP Live is that pMRP does not use any supply data. This means that bland orders, production orders and purchase orders are not included in the pMRP logic. Because  of this, pMRP is not suitable for short-term planning, but this is not the only difference.  The pMRP simulation engine also works differently from MRP Live. It uses a simplified scheduling algorithm that does not rely on the full routing information to refute and analyze pMRP results. You use the dedicated pMRP Fiori apps. Finally,  you can release a simulation that allows you to update operational data such as  planned independent requirements or capacities. Based on your simulation results,  and these updates will then be considered by MRP Live. Now, let's take a look at the pMRP process. In the first step, we need to define a scenario. Then, we create the  reference data, which consists of master data and demand data. After that, we generate a simulation. This is the basic setup required before you can begin  analyzing a simulation. Based on this, you can analyze the data, adjust your simulation,  and finally implement changes in your operations as a prerequisite. Your MRP configuration in the SAP S/4HANA system must be completed and available. This  includes settings such as plant parameters, MRP controllers, standard value keys and formulas. In addition, master data is required. The  simulation will consider the following elements, materials, build-up materials,  routing, production versions. These components are essential for running a pMRP  simulation. In this, understanding pMRP session, we explored  what pMRP is and looked at potential use cases. We also learned why pMRP is designed for long-term planning, how it works and which prerequisites need to be in place. You can  now continue with a pMRP basics part one session, where you will see a system demonstration  on how to create reference data and run simulations.
