Working with Expense Report Exceptions - iPhone. Exceptions appear when your expense report contains a rule violation or is missing required information. In the following example, you will see how to review and resolve exceptions to help approvers and expense processors understand the exceptions so they can complete their reviews. In this example, the expense report contains three exceptions. Press the Alerts notification at the top of the screen to view the details. Exceptions can be alerts or warnings. Alerts indicate an error that you must correct before you can submit your expenses. Warnings are informational and indicate that you have violated a policy and that your expenses might receive additional review. Exceptions that are visible to you will also be visible to the approver and the expense processor. After reviewing your exceptions, press X to close the Alerts pane. To correct or explain the reason for an exception, press the entry. For this example, press the Business Meal (attendees) expense. The Business Meal expense exception is a warning and contains an informational message. For this type of exception, you are not required to make any changes. However, you can change additional information in the Comment field to help approvers and expense processors understand the exception so that they can approve it.  Press Comment, and then press the + icon. Enter your explanation for why you have exceeded your meal limit, and then press Done. Press the Back arrow to return to the Expense screen, and then press Save. Now you will see how to clear an alert exception. Press the Airfare expense. The expense amount was entered incorrectly and is out of policy. Enter the correct amount, and then press Save. The alert is cleared from the airfare expense. Note that the Warning still displays for the Business Meal (attendees) expense. The approver or expense processor will review the comment and either approve the report or send it back to you for additional corrections.
