Connecting Cloud Connector, Production Connector, and SAP Digital Manufacturing

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to connect the integration components to connect SAP Digital Manufacturing to the Shop Floor.

SAP Cloud Connector Configuration

Note

This training only covers the basic setup and does not address system security or provide any security settings recommendations.

Ensuring system security is the responsibility of the customer. Security settings should be conceptualized and implemented independently from this training.

Configuring SAP Cloud Connector is a crucial step in the process of integrating on-premise systems with the SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP), where SAP Digital Manufacturing runs.

To start, launch the SAP Cloud Connector application, which acts as a bridge between your local environment and the SAP cloud. You can access the SAP Cloud Connector via your web browser as it is designed as a web application. To do so, navigate to: https://localhost:8443.

Once you have accessed the SAP Cloud Connector, the next step is to connect it to your SAP BTP subaccount. This connection is essential for integrating your on-premise systems with the cloud environment. To ensure the correct subaccount is connected, add your subaccount ID from SAP BTP. This ID links the SAP Cloud Connector to the appropriate SAP cloud resources and services.

Additionally, enter the location ID to identify the correct SAP Cloud Connector instance. This ensures accurate integration, as it confirms that the right SAP Cloud Connector is being used for the connection.

For detailed information on the configuration process, refer to the exercise Set Up the Connectivity or see the following link: Initial Configuration | SAP Help Portal.

Production Connector Configuration

To set up the production connector, open the Control Center application and navigate to the Cloud Integration tab. Then, go to the Server Security Settings section. Here, you need to define and configure authentication between the cloud connector and the production connector.

Note

This process involves creating a server certificate.

For this training, we use self-generated certificates. However, when creating and selecting certificates it's important to consider the specific requirements of your use case and company.

Refer to the disclaimer above for further guidance.

You can use the Assisted Configuration feature when setting up authentication between the cloud connector and the production connector. This is a tool designed to simplify the creation of connectivity between the connectors, making the process efficient and straightforward.

During the setup, JWT validation will be configured as an authentication mechanism. This is a required setting if you want to execute any cloud execution processes triggered by the production connector.

Additionally, for user management in the production connector, you need to set up a local user to do the initial configuration. After this, and after the base configuration, you can work with user groups.

Once the initial configuration of the production connector is complete, you will find that you no longer need to modify it frequently. All administration, execution, and monitoring tasks can be managed remotely through SAP Digital Manufacturing.

For detailed information on the configuration process, refer to Unit 3, Exercise 1: Set Up the Connectivity or see the following link: Settings in the Control Center of the Production Connector | SAP Help Portal

Integration Configuration in SAP Digital Manufacturing

For shop floor integration, you must establish communication between the cloud connector and the production connector and SAP Digital Manufacturing.

To enable this, you must create configuration objects to represent the cloud connector and the production connector in the Configure Production Connectivity app.

For detailed information on the configuration process, refer to the exercise Set Up the Connectivity or see the following link: Configure Production Connectivity | SAP Help Portal
