Adding Widgets to a Presentation

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to add SAP Analytics Cloud story widgets to PowerPoint slides using the SAP Analytics Cloud, add-in for Microsoft PowerPoint.

How the Add-in Fits into Your Workflow

The add-in connects SAP Analytics Cloud and Microsoft PowerPoint. Understanding how they work together helps you plan and manage your presentations more efficiently.

Three-step workflow diagram for managing widgets in PowerPoint: add from a story, edit directly, then refresh before each meeting.

The typical workflow has three steps:

  • Step 1: Add widgets from a story into PowerPoint

Use the SAP Analytics Cloud, add-in for Microsoft PowerPoint to select the widgets you want to include from a story in SAP Analytics Cloud.

  • Step 2: Edit your widgets directly in PowerPoint

Adjust each widget to fit your audience and message.

  • Step 3: Refresh your widgets before each meeting

When the data in SAP Analytics Cloud changes, open your PowerPoint file and refresh the widgets.

Workflow progresses from building a story in SAP Analytics Cloud to adding, editing, and refreshing PowerPoint widgets before each meeting.

Accessing SAP Analytics Cloud Stories

When you connect the SAP Analytics Cloud, add-in for Microsoft PowerPoint a dedicated panel appears, providing you with several intuitive ways to locate and open your stories. This flexibility ensures you can quickly find the exact content you need for your presentation.

You have three primary methods to access your SAP Analytics Cloud stories through the add-in panel:

  • Explore tab

This tab gives you quick access to your recently viewed or frequently used stories. The Explore tab also has a search function. Use it to find a story by name or keyword.

  • Favorites tab

You can mark any story as a favorite within SAP Analytics Cloud. The Favorites tab shows this list directly. This saves time because you only see stories you have marked as favorites.

  • Open from Folder

This option lets you browse your SAP Analytics Cloud content by folder. When you select Open from Folder, you can browse through:

    • Recent Stories

Similar to the Explore tab, this shows stories you've recently opened.

    • My Files

This section shows your personal files and public folder in SAP Analytics Cloud.

    • Favorites

This gives you another way to access your favorite stories.

Business Scenario

Now that you are connected to your SAP Analytics Cloud tenant, you are ready to start building your presentation. As a sales manager preparing for a meeting with your managers, you want to include the Gross Margin per Product chart from your SAP Analytics Cloud story directly in your PowerPoint slides. Embedding this chart as a widget means your presentation draws on live SAP Analytics Cloud data, making your insights more relevant and credible.

In the following video, you will see how to add a widget from SAP Analytics Cloud to your PowerPoint presentation.

Integrating SAP Analytics Cloud Data into PowerPoint

Once embedded, each widget operates independently on your slide. This means you have full control over its appearance and placement. You can easily resize a widget to fit your slide layout and reposition it anywhere on the slide to best convey your message.

Your presentation is not limited to widgets from a single story. You can add multiple widgets from the same story or use widgets from different stories across your slides.

Dashed arrows connect selected dashboard widgets from two dashboards to a central monitor view.

Summary

Let's summarize what you've learned:

  • Embed live SAP Analytics Cloud widgets in PowerPoint to show the latest data instead of static screenshots.
  • Add widgets from the same story or from different stories across your presentation.
  • Find stories using Explore, Favorites, or Open from Folder in the add-in panel.
