Using Present Mode to Display Stories

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to use present mode when presenting a story.

Present Mode

Using the present mode in an SAP Analytics Cloud story, you can create flexible and fluid presentations using the presentation viewer.

In this lesson, we will explore how you can leverage the present mode in SAP Analytics Cloud to display pages from multiple stories in one presentation.

Objects used for this retain their interactivity and functions. They replace static presentations and information with interactive discussions based on real data - allowing fact-based decisions to be made. Present mode allows you to:

  • Answer questions through direct analysis of current data - to determine connections and look at additional details.
  • Visually plan and simulate the effects of various assumptions and actions.

Create a presentation. You can create a presentation by using pages already in a story, by importing story pages into a story, or combination of both. To leverage the present mode:

  1. Open your story in edit mode and on the page tab, select Import Story Pages.
  2. In the Add Story dialog, select the story.
  3. Select the page or pages you want to import and then
  4. Select Import to add the pages to your story. Each imported page will display in a separate page tab in your story.
Steps 1-4 in creating a presentation for present mode.

Story-level features such as bookmarks, story filters, and comments are not imported as part of the page import.

A presentation structure helps to guide the presentation. You don’t need to configure a structure to run your presentation, you can simply run your story in present mode. In fact, by default, the presentation structure is empty with no defined levels or sublevels. Build your structure from the story's Presentation Settings.

You can use each page only once in a presentation structure, but you do not need to use every page that you have imported. For example, you may have imported an entire story in order to present to different audiences. Having a presentation structure allows you to hide any pages you do not want to view in present mode.

To set up the presentation, create your first topic, then drag and drop pages into the structure. You can rename, reorder, and add subtopics to the structure. You can also hide topics and subtopics in the same way as you do with pages, however, remember that when a topic or subtopic is hidden, all the pages under the entry are also hidden.

Note

  • No separate license is required for the use of present mode.
  • You will require View access for the story in order to import any pages from it.
