Describing the BI Platform Toolbar

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to identify the main functions of the BI Platform toolbar.

BI Platform Toolbar

This section describes the functions of the BI Platform toolbar.

BI Platform toolbar contains tabs for Home, Favorites, Recent Documents, Recently Run, Applications, and My Tiles.

Home tab: Folders

Folders let you access a page with these sections:

  • Public Folders: These are shared folders available to selected users in your organization.
  • Personal Folders: These are private folders that only you can access.

When you select a folder in the tree view, the folder is highlighted and its contents appear.

Three navigation options—Personal Folders, My Subscribed Alert, and Public Folders—appear in the left sidebar of the folder management interface.

Home tab: Categories

Categories let you filter documents by topic.

They work like tags or labels, not folders. Unlike a folder, a single document can belong to multiple categories. This helps you find content based on its subject, not just its location.

BI Launch Pad supports two types of categories:

  • Corporate Categories:
    • These are public categories created by an administrator.
    • You and your colleagues see the same set of corporate categories.
  • Personal Categories:
    • You create and manage these categories yourself.
    • They are visible only to you.
The Sales Category folder is selected under Corporate Categories, displaying one Sales Document of type Web Intelligence last updated on July 7, 2025.

Home tab: Documents

Documents let you access all documents in BI Launch Pad, including those in your personal and public folders.

A table lists four Web Intelligence documents with titles, favorite stars, and last updated dates, including ZZ_Activity Follow-up Dashboard updated June 3, 2025.

Home tab: BI Inbox

BI Inbox lets you send documents to other SAP BusinessObjects users and receive documents from them.

Documents and Alerts navigation options appear on the left, with a document titled ZZ_Charting : 13647 listed in the main panel.

Home tab: Instances

Instances let you display all instances of the documents you have scheduled.

Note

For more information, please refer to Unit 4: Exploring Scheduling.

Home tab: Recycle Bin

Recycle Bin lets you view the documents you have deleted.

When you delete a content object, it moves to the recycle bin, where it is stored until the bin is emptied. You can recover deleted objects and restore them to their original locations.

Favorites tab

Favorites help you quickly access your most used documents.

Mark important documents as favorites to find them easily without searching through all your files.

Selecting the star icon next to the Analysis document adds it to the Favorites tab for quick access.

Recent Documents tab

Recent Documents helps you access documents you have worked on recently.

You can return to your work without searching through folders or looking for specific files.

Four recent Web Intelligence documents appear under the Recent Documents tab, each with title, date, and action menu options.

Recently Run tab

Recently Run lets you view the recent instances that you have scheduled.

Note

For more information, please refer to Unit 4: Exploring Scheduling.

Two Analysis reports with identical timestamps appear under the Recently Run tab, each labeled Web Intelligence with status icons.

Applications tab

You can work with these default applications in BI Launch Pad:

  • Web Intelligence
  • Crystal Reports 2025
  • BI Workspace
  • SAP Analytics Cloud
  • Information Steward
The Applications tab lists four options: Web Intelligence, Crystal Reports, BI Workspace, and Information Steward, each represented by an icon.
