Copying and Moving PODs

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to explain how to copy PODs within the same plant and move PODs across plants and tenants.

Copy and Move of Production Operator Dashboards across Tenants

Duplication of PODs

Building a POD in SAP DM involves considerable effort, insight, and input from a variety of sources. Along the way, unique configurations and customizations often emerge, which gradually become integrated into the POD. There are instances when a well-configured POD may need to be replicated and utilized in different plants or tenants, requiring you to clone the POD across various locations within the same tenant or different tenants. This process saves development time because you don’t have to rebuild the POD from scratch and can use it as a solid foundation for further adjustments.

Manage PODs 2.0 allows you on the one hand to quickly duplicate a POD within the same tenant and plant. On the other hand, Manage PODs 2.0 also lets you export a POD from a given tenant and plant and import it into another plant, either within the same tenant or in a different tenant.

In the following videos, you’ll learn how to duplicate the recently created Welding POD within the same tenant and plant. You’ll also learn how to download the Welding POD from one plant and upload it to a different plant.

Copy POD within the same Plant

In this video we copy and adjust the customized Welding Operation POD from the previous unit within the same plant and tenant, to use the copied POD for a second welding machine.

Download a POD from one Plant and upload it to another Plant

Now we want to use the Welding Operation POD in a newly built bicycle plant. To do this, we download the existing POD from our plant and upload it to a new plant.

Note

Some manual steps are required after importing a POD into a new plant and/or tenant because not all items are transferred automatically. Verify that the master data is present and transport all relevant Production Processes (PP) between tenants. Service Registry Keys are exported and imported with the PPs, so after transporting and deploying the PPs to another tenant, the POD mappings are immediately available and do not require manual adjustment.
