Key Techniques for Effective Dashboard Management

In addition to customization, there are several ways to manage a dashboard.

  • Setting a Default Dashboard

The default dashboard is the landing page after logging in. Depending on workspace administration settings, the default dashboard may be changed. If default dashboard selection is allowed, any dashboard (except predefined ones) may be chosen as the default.

  • Sharing a Dashboard

Sharing dashboards enables collaboration by providing team members access to the same insights. Dashboards shared with you can be viewed under the "Shared with Me" section in the left navigation page.

  • Adding a Dashboard to the Collection

Collections help organize dashboards, reports, and diagrams into groups defined by the workspace admin. These appear in the left-side panel under their assigned collection groups, but empty collections are hidden.

As an admin, you can add dashboards (except for predefined ones) to collections to arrange them into groups by relevant topics. Collections appear on the left-side navigation pane and are arranged into collection groups. If a collection doesn’t contain any dashboards, it doesn’t appear on the left-side navigation pane.

  • Dashboard Administration

Additional dashboard settings are accessible through the "Administration" section of your workspace account. This section allows control over which predefined dashboards are available in the workspace (predefined dashboards will be covered later), setting a default dashboard, managing external content, and adding dashboard templates. please look here for further information about dashboard administration.

  • Navigation

The left-side navigation pane provides easy access to key areas in dashboards. It includes a shortcut to the default dashboard for quick viewing, a section to browse available dashboards, and a personal section to look at recently used and shared dashboards.

When editing a dashboard, you can use keyboard keys and shortcuts to navigate between the dashboard panels, move, or resize them.

  • Favorites

You can mark dashboards as favorites for quick and easy navigation. You can mark user-defined dashboards as favorites for quick access to frequently used dashboards. You can also mark a dashboard as a favorite from the dashboard details page. Once marked, they will be accessible from the left panel.

Gain Insight Into Dashboard Permission Settings

Image - Dashboard Permissions

Dashboards are unrestricted by default, meaning that all workspace users can view and edit them. Restricting a dashboard's permissions can control access and help maintain confidentiality. There are thee kinds of permissions:

  1. Unrestricted: All workspace users can view and edit the dashboard.
  2. Write restricted: All workspace users can view the dashboard but only specific users can edit it.
  3. Read & Write restricted: Only specific users can access the dashboard.

By default, only admins can access the architecture executive dashboard. As an admin, you can grant read and update permissions to non-admin roles. To do this, in the User Roles and Permissions section of the admin area, select a non-admin role and adjust the permissions as needed under Architecture Executive Dashboard.
