SAP LeanIX is a global, market-leading Enterprise Architecture solution, enabling organizations to create transparency, visualize, assess, and manage the transition to their target IT architecture. In the next unit, Rene de Daniel will explain in more detail how to navigate and work with SAP LeanIX as an Enterprise Architect. But before that, let's find out where SAP LeanIX offers Reference Content:
The SAP LeanIX Reference Catalog offers a robust, industry-specific library of business capabilities that organizations can import or link to existing fact sheets, enabling greater standardization, improved data quality, and streamlined transformation planning. Organizations can select the industry of interest and import Business Capabilities into their workspace: either automatically generating or updating fact sheets or to link existing fact sheets
The SAP Business Capability Model, which can for example be found in the SAP LeanIX Reference Catalog, follows a three level-hierarchy:
- Level 1 – Business Domain: These are broad, high-level categories representing major areas of the business.Example: Sourcing and Procurement
- Level 2 – Business Areas: These are more specific subcategories within each domain, detailing particular functions.Example: Procurement Contract Management
- Level 3 – Business Capability: These are the most granular elements describing specific business functions.Example: Supplier Negotiation Management
Especially valuable at level 3 of the capability hierarchy, the catalog recommends relevant SAP solutions that appear directly within the Transformations tab when using SAP LeanIX Architecture and Road Map Planning, enabling users to plan and initiate transformation journeys with precision. Backed by continuously updated SAP reference architecture, the catalog helps standardize naming conventions, enrich fact sheet content, and reduce duplication, all while accelerating the path to well-informed, solution-aligned transformation. With optional flexibility and deep integration, it bridges best-practice architecture with actionable planning.
