Linking Views to Selected Objects

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to link views and General Overviews to selected objects to gather contextual data.

Example of a Linked View to a Selected Object

Linked Views facilitate contextual analytics. You can create links from nearly any list views, or from the header and table sections in detailed views of applicable business records, to other list views, General Overview views, selected Configuration views, User-Defined Table views, User-Defined Object views, or UDQ views to get record-specific data.

When working with a business record, you may want to open a list view of a business object, filtered by one or more field values from the record. For example, if you are in the detailed view of a business partner record and want to see all open sales orders for that business partner. Or quickly access historical invoice information for specific items when creating a sales order.

How to Manage Linked List Views

The purpose of the linked list view is to feed business-relevant information to the user when they need it. For example, giving them information when they are reviewing selected master data or processing a document.

This video describes how to create a link to a list view using the Linked List Views app.

Note

  • To manage links from the Linked List Views app, open the Linked List Views app on the home page. Review all the linkable objects in the Web client, including all master data and all documents. You’ll also see the number of links already created for each object. When you choose an object, it takes you back to the link settings for that object.
  • Everything about viewing and managing the links from the master data object also applies to all documents.

How to Manage Links to the General Overview

In this video, you will learn about the linked list view functionality in relation to the General Overview screen.

Note

Everything about viewing and managing the general overview links from the master data object also applies to all documents.

How to Link a Linked View to Selected Items in a List View

When working with a list view of a master data object like the list of all customers. Or when processing a document object like the list of all open purchase orders, you may want to open a linked list view or a General Overview view related to selected records in the list. For example, if you are reviewing a list of items and you want to see all open sales orders related to three different items from this list.

How to Link Rows in Marketing Documents to a View

When processing a single marketing document such as a Purchase Order or an A/R Invoice, you will find it useful to view a list view or a General Overview view directly from the table section in the document. The link will filter the view using selected field values from the table section.

By using the Detailed View Rows link type, you will be able to choose selected items rows in the document table and use them as filters in the linked view or General Overview view.

This video describes how to create and use this link type.

How to Link Rows in Marketing Documents to a View Using Field Values from the Header and from the Table Section

To enhance the focus information even further, you can create a link:

  • FROM the table section in detailed view of an object, for example the rows of products in the table section in a marketing document like the sales quotation.
  • The link filter will use fields outside the table section of the source view. This means you can use fields from the sales quotation header in addition to fields from the products table detailed view.
  • The target linked list view can be a list view/ Overview view/ Configuration view/ User-Defined Table view or UDQ view like in other linked list views.

When processing a single marketing document, such as a sales quotation, you will be able to view a linked list view directly from the products table rows section in the document. The Detailed View Rows link type will filter the target view using selected field values from the table section (like item code) and also from the header section (like customer code). Choosing a filter field from the header in addition to a field from the table is the additional functionality compared to the previous video.

Let’s see an example of creating a link from the table rows in the sales quotation detailed view to the sales invoices view that only shows historical invoices information for the selected items of the specific customer from the sales order.

This video describes how to create and use this link type.
