What is Joule?

Joule is a generative AI copilot embedded throughout SAP’s cloud enterprise portfolio, delivering proactive and contextualized insights from across SAP’s applications and third-party sources.

SAP Joule is an AI copilot that understands your business needs.

Joule is embedded into SAP applications from HR to finance, supply chain, procurement, and customer experience, as well as into SAP Business Technology Platform. It employs a conversational user interface that is integrated with SAP applications. It is a rich web client that renders assistant responses using SAP Fiori-compliant UI controls as it is pre-trained with SAP business data and business processes.

Joule offers conversational interactions between humans and computers to simplify access to information and automate business processes, thus improving both the employee and customer satisfaction. Joule can direct you to the right application to complete your tasks, help you complete specific tasks, and quickly and easily find the information you're looking for.

Providing information in real-time through simple natural language questions. Want to get a KPI figure or bring up a quick report? Ask Joule and you will get the result quickly without having to go through all of the manual process of result filtering.
Helping you understand how tasks are performed in the system, essentially a real-time "how to" guide for SAP software. Via the natural-language interface, Joule provides quick and easy access to help content and creates a summary via the large language model. No need to browse through long search result lists anymore and reading into several topics to find the correct information. Not sure which application could help you check the status of sales orders? Just express the need in natural language and Joule will propose the most reasonable applications for the required business operation.
Saving you time by bringing up the relevant business transaction directly. Want to know the status of a specific purchase order? Once Joule shows up the required business information directly in the natural language user panel, you will be able to navigate there directly.

Set-Up and Integration

Joule includes multiple components that must be integrated for a seamless working solution.

Once the setup is complete, you can navigate to the Fiori Launchpad to access the Joule web client and explore its features.

Joule Capabilities

Joule supports several capability types: transactional, navigational, informational, and analytical insights. Depending on the capabilities available with your SAP solution, you can use Joule to find and navigate to apps, find business information, complete tasks, find product information, explore insights in your data, or even find useful HR information such as available vacation days.

Joule provides transactional, navigational, informational, and analytical capabilities, enabling users to complete tasks, find information, gain insights, and navigate SAP solutions more efficiently.

Transactional
A transactional capability helps you with your day-to-day tasks. Using transactional capability types, Joule works with you to help you create or retrieve business data, complete your tasks, find the information you need to complete tasks, complete required task steps, directs you to the right place to complete parts of tasks that can't be completed in Joule, update business data, and much more.
Navigational
A navigational capability helps users find and navigate to the functionality or apps they're looking for without having to go through multiple links to reach a destination.
Informational
An informational capability (Conversational search) helps users retrieve necessary information from the SAP Help Portal or documents uploaded to the Joule service if you have Set Up Document Grounding. Joule searches available documentation and its own knowledge base to find the answer to your query, summarizes the search results, and provides the summary as the answer to your question, along with the top three search results.
Note
Please note that Joule can return responses from SAP content as well as content from its own knowledge base. Only responses that contain links to the source content contain SAP content.
Analytical
An analytical insights capability helps users explore their data and gain insights into their business, in a natural, conversational experience. Using familiar business terms, simply ask a question about your business data, and Joule will instantly provide answers as simple charts and metrics.
