In this lesson, you'll learn about the SAP Business Data Cloud cockpit.
Exploring and Installing Data Products using the SAP Business Data Cloud Cockpit
Objective
Introduction
The SAP Business Data Cloud Cockpit
SAP Business Data Cloud Cockpit
The SAP Business Data Cloud cockpit is one of the core components of the SAP Business Data Cloud solution.

For the IT administrator, SAP Business Data Cloud cockpit is used to display and configure the SAP Business Data Cloud landscape and managing users and roles.
For the business user (data scientist, data analyst), the SAP Business Data Cloud cockpit is used to discover data products and intelligent applications.
Setting up the SAP Business Data Cloud Landscape
The first task in setting up SAP Business Data Cloud is to configure the connections to the different components and data sources. To do this, you use SAP for Me, which is SAP's customer portal. This is where you provision SAP software products and solutions.
Once you have provisioned the individual components that you want to use in your SAP Business Data Cloud solution, the next step is to create an SAP Business Data Cloud formation to bind the components. You can create multiple formations in your SAP Business Data Cloud environment to include or exclude specific components. For example, one formation might include SAP Databricks and another formation might exclude SAP Databricks, but include SAP BW. You can assign users to different formations.

In the preceding diagram, there are three formations. They all include SAP S/4HANA as a data source, but only two formations include SAP Databricks.
As part of the setup, you must also configure the connections to your applications that will provide the source data to SAP Business Data Cloud, such as SAP S/4HANA and SAP SuccessFactors. Only supported data sources are available to connect.
Note
Discovering Intelligent Applications and Data Products
Data products and Intelligent Applications can be discovered and deployed using SAP Business Data Cloud cockpit.
To begin exploring and deploying Data products and Intelligent Applications, you must select a target SAP Business Data Cloud formation and a source system from which you want to extract the data.
Watch this short video to learn more about the steps required to make content available in SAP Business Data Cloud.
When displaying an available Intelligent Application or a Data product in the SAP Business Data Cloud cockpit, you can find information such as:
- Category (for example, Finance).
- System Type (for example, SAP S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition).
- Version.
- Description and purpose.
- Details about Data Products.
- List of corresponding content (SAP Datasphere and SAP Analytics Cloud content).
Activating Data Packages

The result of activating a Data Package is the availability of the included data products. The activation automatically starts the data replication to the Foundation Service layer of SAP Business Data Cloud. Technically, the data is replicated to the SAP HANA Data Lake which is the storage component of the Foundation Service.
Note
Installing SAP Business Data Cloud Intelligent Applications

Note
After installing the Intelligent Application or activating the Data Package, you'll see a list of all your chosen artifacts, with their status. For example, if you've missed a step in the configuration of your landscape, a failure status will be displayed.
Let's Summarize What You've Learned
In this lesson, you've learned about the SAP Business Data Cloud cockpit.
Explore, deploy, and manage data products, Intelligent Applications, and user roles.
Configure SAP Business Data Cloud landscapes by provisioning components, creating formations, and connecting supported data sources.
Activate Data Packages or install Intelligent Applications to make baseline data and associated artifacts accessible and usable.
