Concept of Autonomous Enterprise

Before discussing the Autonomous Application Lifecycle Management mission, we want to recap the Autonomous Enterprise concept. If you are already familiar with it, you might skip the first slide.

The vision of the Autonomous Enterprise is built on SAP Business AI Platform as an operating model in which AI assistants and agents - operating within governed boundaries - execute end-to-end business processes with humans in the lead. Rather than helping people work faster, the system works autonomously, escalating to people when judgment is required.

This slide illustrates the architecture of how SAP Joule, SAP Autonomous Suite, and the SAP Business AI Platform work together:

Let's break down each component: 

Joule (Top Center)

Joule is SAP's AI assistant, acting as the central intelligence that interacts with users and orchestrates AI-driven tasks across the SAP landscape.

SAP Autonomous Suite (Top Layer)

This layer represents the business domains and agents that Joule interacts with:

  • SAP Autonomous Domains

    Finance, Spend, SCM (Supply Chain Management), HCM (Human Capital Management), CX (Customer Experience), Industry AI

    These are core SAP business areas where Joule can provide AI-driven automation and insights.

  • Partner Agents

    Accenture, Deloitte, IBM, PwC, etc.

    These are SAP partners who provide specialized AI agents and solutions that integrate with SAP.

  • Third-party AI Agents

    Other AI providers

    External AI agents that can be integrated into the SAP ecosystem for additional capabilities.

Agent Gateway (Middle Connector)

The Agent Gateway acts as a bridge, connecting the SAP Autonomous Suite (business domains and agents) with the underlying AI platform. It enables communication and orchestration between Joule and various agents.

SAP Business AI Platform (Bottom Layer)

This foundational layer provides the tools, data, and governance needed to build, run, and manage AI solutions.

Build (Left Section)
  • Joule Studio

    A development environment for creating and customizing AI agents.

    Supported AI frameworks and platforms for model development (n8n, Vercel, Visual Studio Code, GitHub, Claude Code, Cursor, etc.)

  • SAP Integration Suite

    Tools for integrating SAP and non-SAP data sources.

Contextualize & Reason (Center Section)
  • SAP Knowledge Graph

    Centralizes business data and relationships, such as Business Process and Industry, to enable context-aware AI reasoning.

  • SAP & Non-SAP Models

    Supports both SAP-provided and external AI models (Anthropic, OpenAI, Mistral, Cohere, Perplexity, etc.).

  • SAP Business Data Cloud

    Data storage and management, supporting SAP and Non-SAP Business Data Fabric like Databricks, Microsoft, Google Cloud

Govern (Right Section)
  • SAP AI Agent Hub

    Central management for AI agents.

  • Value Realization

    Tools to measure and optimize business value from AI.

  • Joule Studio Runtime

    Execution environment for AI agents.

  • Identity, Access, Security

    Ensures secure, compliant access to AI and data.
