Determine the Multi-Stage Networks

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to identify interrelated networks in your supply chain.

Multi-Stage Network Operator

The Multi-Stage Network operator can be used to vizualize multi-stage networks within your supply chain. The operator segments it into individual networks of interdependent location products (stored in the attribute NETWORKID) and assigns a stage (called echelon level) to each location-product-combination (stored as attribute IOECHELONID).

The following overview shows the inputs and outputs of this planning operator:

Determine Interrelated Networks in your Supply Chain

Steps

  1. Create a Master Data Workbook for Location Product Master Data Type with the two Attributes NETWORKID and IOECHELONID.

    1. Log on into the SAP IBP, add-in for Microsoft.

    2. Choose Master Data Workbook in the Master Data area of the ribbon and then Create.

    3. On the right side, choose Worksheet TypeMaster Data and Master Data Type Location Product.

    4. In the Create Master Data Workbook popup, define a Workbook Filter on the left side using Planning Unit as attribute.

    5. Select all planning units which correspond to your group number ## e.g. Trainee00 with Planning Units: Brasil00, Europe00, India00, US00 and Venezuela00.

    6. Choose Base Version in the Version field.

    7. Switch to Attributes and choose beside the mandatory fields Version, Location ID, and Product ID the following three attributes:

Attributes for Network Analysis MD Workbook

      Attributes
      IO Network ID
      Network Echelon Level
      Planning Unit
    8. Click on OK to close the Create Master Data Workbook popup and open the master data workbook.

    9. Please note, that IO Network ID and Network Echelon Level are empty for the selected combinations. If the columns are not empty (e.g. because the operator was executed already by other participants without proper filtering) you can optionally delete the content of those two columns and Save Changes in the Master Data area of the ribbon.

  2. Save your Master Data Workbook as Favorite MD_WB_LOCPROD##.

    1. In the Master Data area, click on Favorites and choose Add.

    2. As Name, use MD_WB_LOCPROD##, click Add to save the Master Data Favorite.

  3. Run the planning operator Multi-Stage Network in the application job area using Inventory Planning (Advanced) -->Run.

    1. Choose Inventory Planning Profile ## as Planning Operator.

    2. As Function, select Multi-Stage Network.

    3. Select Base Version.

    4. Select all planning units which correspond to your group number ## with Planning Units: Brasil00, Europe00, India00, US00 and Venezuela00.

    5. Please ensure that you have not assigned an attribute-based filter (as this planning operator does not support attribute-based filters, and error message will appear otherwise). You can verify this by switching to the second tab called Filter in the Run Inventory Planning (Advanced) Once popup.

    6. Click Next and (optionally, you can add a Reason Code and/or a Comment.

    7. Wait until your application job is finished, close the popup using OK.

  4. Refresh your master data workbook opening the drop down under Save ChangesRefresh (or re-open it from your favorites, if it is not open anymore) to see the IO Network IDs and the related levels.

We have executed the Multi-Stage Network planning operator and identify its impact on master data. With this, we know now how to identify the dependencies between the different parts of your network.
