Innovating SAP BW in SAP Business Data Cloud

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to describe use cases for modernizing SAP BW in SAP Business Data Cloud.

SAP BW Innovation

Usage Scenario

The innovate step is the last step of the lift, shift and innovate approach.

A typical innovation scenario is to replace SAP BW workflows with SAP-managed data products and intelligent applications.

Replace SAP BW Use Cases

SAP-managed data products and intelligent applications allow customers to consume and create analytics scenarios, following a clean core principle. SAP BW use cases can be gradually transitioned to SAP-managed data products and intelligent applications.

Let's have a look at high-level approaches for replacing SAP BW use cases:

  • Replace CompositeProviders and Queries with Views and Analytic Models.

  • Re-routing of data provisioning to SAP S/4HANA RISE/PCE and Foundation Service.

  • Replace standard DataSources with SAP-managed data products.

  • Translate transformations from SAP BW into Transformation Flows in SAP Datasphere.

  • Replace and repoint existing Local Tables (Files) based on SAP BW data to Local Tables with data from SAP S/4HANA

  • Access non-SAP data sources via Replication Flows in SAP Datasphere and push the data into Local Tables (File).

The image is showing the relationship between SAP BW on‑premise and SAP Business Data Cloud (SAP Analytics Cloud & SAP Datasphere). The left column shows: “SAP BW on‑premise” stacked artifacts (Query, CompositeProvider/MultiProvider, InfoObject, aDSO, InfoCube, DSO, Transformation, Local Tables, Replication Flow, DataSource and at the bottom source systems SAP ECC and SAP S/4HANA. The right column shows SAP Business Data Cloud: SAP Analytics Cloud: Story, SAP Datasphere: Analytic Model, View, Local Tables, Transformation Flow, SAP Managed Data Product, Remote Table, Foundation layers: SAP Foundation Services, SAP S/4HANA RISE/PCE. Arrows show how BW artifacts correspond to cloud artifacts: Query → SAC Story, CompositeProvider/MultiProvider → Analytic Model and/or View, InfoObject/aDSO/InfoCube/DSO → Local Tables, DTP/Transformation → Transformation Flow, Replication Flow/Data Source → Remote Table. A dotted connector labeled “Data product generator for SAP BDC” indicates generating data products in the cloud from BW objects. Overall, it illustrates the migration/translation path from BW on‑premise to SAP Business Data Cloud components.

Let's Summarize What You've Learned

In this lesson you have learned about the following SAP BW innovation scenarios in SAP Business Data Cloud:

  • SAP Business Data Cloud offers SAP-managed data products and intelligent applications.
  • Use SAP-managed data products and intelligent applications to replace SAP BW use cases.
