When starting a new story, you can use a template that provides predefined layouts and placeholders for objects to help you build a story.

Apply a Template to an Existing Story
You can also apply a template to an existing story by selecting the
Layouts button in the ribbon.
Once a template is applied, it is shown in the Manually Added section of the Layouts panel, with Additional Layouts available below.

Create a Template
There are prebuilt templates to choose from, or you can also create your own by saving a story as a template.
Saving the story as a template first removes all custom formatting and data, then converts charts, tables, maps, input controls, and value driver trees into empty placeholders.

Page and widget story preferences such as background color are saved with your template. The following features can be saved with your story template:
- Theme
- Scripting (Scripts on widgets are saved with templates and widget IDs are kept.)
- Advanced widgets
- Custom widgets (The template removes all data and converts custom widgets into placeholders.)
- Composites (without data models)
