Searching within BW Modeling Tools

The Search Dialog in the BW Modeling Tools

If you want to search for a BW object based on complex search criteria, use the BW object (torch) icon. in BW modeling tools. You can restrict the search to:

  • Active objects only,
  • Inactive objects only,
  • Business Content objects,
  • A combination of these.

In the Object Type field, you can list several object types for which you want to search. Available object types are displayed after typing "," For the object types ELEM (I. e. query element) and IOBJ (I. e. infoObject), subtypes can be specified.

You can search for an object that was created or modified by a specific user during a specified date range with the following options:

  • Any user: Do not apply a user filter;
  • Current user: use the user of the current BW project;
  • Specified user: Specify a user name in the search dialog.

With the Browse button, you can search for a SAP HANA object and then search for an SAP BW/4HANA object that uses this SAP HANA object.

There is a dedicated eclipse view that lists the search result.

Like in the BW Repository, right-clicking on an entry opens the context menu of this SAP BW/4HANA object. Depending on the object type, you can open its definition or data preview, or you can copy or delete the object. Selecting the Where used... entry starts a search for dependent objects. You can refresh the current search using F5 or the refresh icon.

Above the Search Result view, there is a drop down menu. You can select any of the previous searches. You can also open a dialog window with this history. With the Remove button, you can remove single searches from this list.
