Introducing SAP Gateway - Building OData Services

Hello and welcome to a development of OData Services in ABAP, also known as SAP Gateway. My name is Stefan Fell and I'm a principal instructor for technology topics at SAP. The OData protocol has taken the mobile and web-based application world by storm since its release. SAP Gateway implements this OData standard in an ABAP system and provides data for modern application scenarios including SAP Fiori and SAP S/4 HANA. This learning journey provides you with an overview of OData and leads the way to implement SAP Gateway services in many ways. First, we will cover the origin of SAP Gateway, components and development scenarios. After that we will dig into the OData standard, examine the OData service structure, call OData requests and perform OData queries. But this learning journey is all about ABAP. So we continue with a walkthrough of the tools for modeling, implementing, maintaining and handling recipitate gateway services. We will define data models in several ways and implement create, read, update and delete operations in ABAP. You will learn how to evaluate query options in ABAP and use generators for function modules, search apps and the famous ABAP CDS views. A short abstract of ABAP program models is also included, but we focus on the OData part. Four ways to create an SAP gateway service based on CDS views will be shown, which heavily depend on the release of your ABAP system. You will map, reference and publish CDS views as well as include them in business services. Now jump in and enjoy your learning.
