Analyzing a Production Scheduling Profile

Objectives

After completing this lesson, you will be able to:

  • Analyze a Production Scheduling Profile

  • Execute Printing
  • Schedule Order
  • Document Links (Material, BOM)

Automatic Action on Confirmation

  • Goods Receipt

Default Order Types

  • Make-to-Stock Production
  • Make-to-Order Production

By using a production scheduling profile, you can optimize the processing of a production order, for example, by automating order activities. In the following, the most important options are shown together with links to additional information:

  • At order creation, orders can be automatically released such that the order can be immediately processed after creation.
  • At order creation or release, documents of the material and BOM can be automatically linked to the order.
  • At order release, orders can be automatically printed and scheduled.
  • When the last operation is confirmed, an automatic goods receipt can be triggered for the product.
  • If during a material availability check a component can only be partially committed, the other components of the order can also only be committed with the corresponding proportion. Therefore, in case of component shortage, other components which might not be needed can be committed to different production orders.
  • For different manufacturing strategies, such as make-to-stock production and make-to-order production, different order types can be set as default such that, for example, when manually creating a production order for the material, the SAP S/4HANA system creates a production order with the respective order type.
Note
Production scheduling profiles are defined in the Customizing activity Define Production Scheduling Profile for Discrete Manufacturing.

You can assign a production scheduling profile directly to the material master of a product. Alternatively, you can assign a production scheduling profiles to production supervisors in Customizing and then assign the production supervisor (with a possibly different production scheduling profile) to the material master.

Note
Production supervisors and the assignment of a production scheduling profiles to production supervisors are defined in the Customizing activity Define Production Supervisors for Discrete Manufacturing.

When you create a production order for a product, a production scheduling profile assigned directly to the material master has higher priority, that is:

  • If a production scheduling profile is assigned directly to the material master, it is always copied to the order, regardless of whether a production supervisor with a different production scheduling profile is assigned.
  • If no production scheduling profile is assigned to the material master, the production scheduling profile of the production supervisor, if available, is copied.

Simulations

In this demonstration, you will see the following process steps:

  1. Assign a production scheduling profile to a material master.
  2. Analyze the settings of the production scheduling profile.
  3. Create a production order for the material and analyze the impact of the production scheduling profile on the order.
