Administering the Adaptive Processing Server

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to Configure the Adaptive Processing Server.

Adaptive Processing Server Role

See the following scenario depicting how to improve performance by splitting up the resource-intensive services of the APS.

Configuring the Adaptive Processing Server is important because it allows for optimal resource allocation and management within the BI Platform.

Creating additional Adaptive Processing Servers with dedicated services is known as splitting.

Splitting ensures that the server adapts to the specific needs and requirements of the BI system, optimizing performance and responsiveness.

For a production system, it is recommended to split the Adaptive Processing Server to meet your business requirements.

You can create additional APSs:

  • Run the System Configuration Wizard:

The wizard helps you with basic configurations of your BI platform system, including configuring APSs according to predefined deployment templates. Proper system sizing is strongly advised.

  • Use the CMC to manually create, clone and configure additional APSs.

When you create a new server in the CMC, you initially choose one of the services. Next, you are given the opportunity to select additional services for the new server, based upon server type.

The following table lists all the services that are hosted by the Adaptive Processing server.

Adaptive Processing Server Properties

The following table describes the Adaptive Processing Server Properties.

General Properties

PropertyDescriptionDefault Value
Service Startup Timeout (seconds)Specifies the amount of time, in seconds, that the server will wait for services to start. If a service fails to start within the time specified, there are two possible reasons:
  • The service failed, for example, because a needed resource such as a database couldn't be found, or the service come across a port conflict.

  • The service couldn't start within the specified time, for example, because the system is too slow.

To find the reason, check the server log file. If the service couldn't start within the time specified, consider increasing this value.
The default value is 1200 seconds.

Adaptive Processing Server Metrics

The following table describes the server metrics that appear on the Metrics screen for Adaptive Processing servers.
