When you need to migrate an on-premise SAP HANA database to an SAP HANA Cloud database and want to select a subset of tables and views, you should consider SAP HANA replication services.
Replication services support hybrid scenarios by allowing you to replicate a subset of data to the SAP HANA database in SAP HANA Cloud from SAP HANA on-premise. This is an alternative approach to a full migration of your existing SAP HANA on-premise system. When the real-time replication option is selected, data updates in the SAP HANA on-premise system are captured and applied immediately in SAP HANA Cloud.
Note
Replication Services is used to replicate from SAP HANA on-premise to SAP HANA Cloud, and not the other way round. Replication Services doesn’t support non-SAP data sources or targets.Replication Services is available in SAP HANA Cloud Central and allows you to replicate selected users (including their privileges), tables, SQL views, and calculation views from SAP HANA on-premise to the SAP HANA Cloud.
You can access the application from the Data Replication card on the Overview page of your instance.
The Data Replication card displays an overview of the data replication tasks that have already been created, their status, and the number of replicated database objects they contain.
From this card, you can click a specific task (identified by its connection) to open the detailed monitoring page, or you can start the replication wizard to create a new data replication task.
Connection Types
The data replication application supports two types of connections to the on-premise SAP HANA systems:
- SAP HANA 2.0 SPS 05 or Higher
This connection type lets you use remote table replication (RTR), using an SAP HANA smart data access hanaodbc connection. It's only available for remote databases on SAP HANA 2.0 SPS 05 or higher.
- SAP HANA 2.0 SPS 04 or Lower
This connection type must be used if your remote database is on SAP HANA 2.0 SPS 04 or lower, or if you need to replicate data from row-store tables. The underlying replication technology used is SAP HANA smart data integration with a HanaAdapter connection.
Note
You can also use this option if your remote database is on SAP HANA 2.0 SPS 05 or higher.
Data Replication Creation
To create a replication service, you can use the SAP HANA Cloud Central Replication tool.
You just need to select the desired remote source and then the tables to replicate.
