Overview of SAP Cloud Application Studio - Extending SAP Cloud for Customer

Hello, welcome to the new video tutorial series on how to extend C4C with SAP Cloud Application Studio. In this series, I really would like to give you a quick overview, how you can start extending C4C with the local SDK SAP Cloud Application Studio. For that we want to take a look into a use case that is going, leading us through the development and showing us many examples of how to build an application and how to extend it more and more. So, let's take a look at our use case first here. So now in our use case, we have Jenny from a business. Jenny always needs special solutions. And in this case, Jenny would like to have a seminar management. So, she wants to have a solution in her CRM where she can manage different seminars. Because Jenny works at a company that is selling to the clients also seminars and they would like to manage who was attending the seminars, who is teaching the seminars, from when to when the seminar can be booked and more information. So she's from business, has special requirements and wants to have some covered in a specific solution that is tailored to her needs. And then there's Tom. Thomas from IT. It's no problem for him. He says: “Sure! I can do that for you”, because he knows the Cloud Application Studio very well, and creating a new table with adding some information is actually no big deal here. It is quite simple to do. We are going to see this in a minute. So, what does this feature? I mean step one is that business needs to define the features they need. So, Jenny says and that's what we start with is that she would like to be able to create, edit and view all seminars that they have. She also wants to be able to assign participants to the seminars and she wants to maintain whether they attend or not. And also for sure, she's very interested in reporting later on and she automatically wants to calculate the revenue for each seminar based on certain business logic here. This is only the start because Jenny for sure has many more features that she would like to have in the future. In step two Tom comes into the game. Tom will design an IT solution. So he will talk to Jenny and will understand the requirement she has and he will transform this into a data model. That's what every solution of this begins within the Sap Cloud Application Studio. He will make up the data model that will store the data Jenny wants to capture. Then, he will understand the business logic that Jenny needs. In this case the calculation of the revenue. And after that he basically is only generating through UI, fine-tuning it and solution is already done. And if you have a new seminar management solution in the system that goes very quickly, but there are many more fine-tuning activities, that is also in the further videos that we will cover later on. But first, let's take a look at the data model that we need here. So, I mean we will create the seminars in the custom content. So we will create a new application that we call Seminar Management which will hold the seminars of Jenny here and to these seminars you for sure can assign some standard content. Because that's very important that you're able to connect the custom content with the standard content. I mean this brings you then also the additional value. So, in our case we will connect seminars as multiple contacts. From accounts or even individual customers that could be. So, these are our participants who will attend our seminars and then we will also have a teacher. The teacher is always an employee of our company, of Jenny's company. So that's how we will model the teacher as an employee and this is the way how we built in a solution that is connected to our standard but also is able to store completely custom content here as Jenny wishes. So what kind of data model do you need for that? I mean, on the seminar level we will have a name of the seminar, a description, start and end date of the seminar. We will have a teacher, which will be already this link. We have a price per participant and a number of participants and that will also be able to help us already to calculate the total revenue. So, this is the overall solution, how we will have it. So, what do we need else? I mean now we also need a business logic. So, the business logic that we want to do in the moment the seminar is saved is that you calculate the revenue based on the number of participants times the price. It's not a very complicated logic. We will also later see more complex logic examples, but we want to keep it simple in this very first example. Yeah, and then I mean, what's the next step? So, the next step is for sure that we want to get started building the application. And that you can see in the next video where we're going to start logging into the SAP Cloud Application Studio and creating our first solution.
