Posting Goods Receipt for Embedded EWM

Objectives

After completing this lesson, you will be able to:
  • Set up the integration for embedded EWM
  • Set up the goods receipt process in embedded EWM

Embedded EWM Integration Settings

As in general the interface for embedded EWM has not been changed, most of the settings for the integration between the ERP and the EWM part of an S/4HANA system are similar or the same to that of a decentral deployment.

As there is just one system and one client, the ERP logical system is assigned to that client, for the EWM part only a dummy logical system for the distribution model is required. You need an RFC connection with the same name as the logical system name of the ERP.

Shows the integration between SAP S/4HANA and embedded Extended Warehouse Management (EWM) systems and synchronization between ERP and EWM with an RFC connection

A business system group is required, but only the logical system of the ERP is assigned to this, and there is only one business system, which is defined as "own" business system, but is also connected to the logical system of the ERP side.

Organizational Integration

The organizational integration settings are the same as with a decentral EWM, also in this scenario an interim ERP warehouse number is required for the connection.

Note

All the names in the slides above are the ones used in our training landscape for EWM classes. They are just examples.

Goods Receipt Process with embedded EWM

One of the most recent simplifications in SAP S/4HANA embedded EWM is the option to execute the goods receipt process without an inbound delivery in ERP and EWM. For a goods receipt posting directly in Inventory Management, the system can automatically create the putaway warehouse task in EWM.

Showcases a Goods Receipt with Embedded EWM, categorized as Asynchronous and Synchronous. Diagram highlights different procedural steps for handling goods receipts

The following are examples of the goods movements that can be posted using synchronous goods movement:

  • Goods receipt with the Post Goods Movement app for purchase orders and for discrete or process manufacturing orders
  • Goods movements posted in Inventory Management using BAPIs from Inventory Management or Production
  • Cancellation of goods receipt for purchase orders
  • Goods receipt without purchase order using movement type 501
  • Goods issue for cost center using movement type 201

Note

For a complete list of goods movements which are available for synchronous posting, check the documentation for your SAP S/4HANA release.

Note

Synchronous goods movement communication is available in EWM embedded in SAP S/4HANA only. This feature is not available in decentralized EWM based on SAP S/4HANA.

Prerequisites for synchronous goods movements for purchase orders:

  • The purchase order item has either no confirmation control key or a confirmation control key without the internal confirmation category 2 - Shipping Notification.
  • If you want the system to make a packaging proposal, you have to assign a packaging building profile in customizing. The packaging proposal can be determined based on:
    • Packaging specifications
    • Packing instructions
    • Package builder
  • You have maintained the goods receipt bin determination by one of the following methods:
    • A staging area / door determination for inbound
    • You have assigned the source bin in a warehouse process type (WPT) and assigned this WPT for the synchronous goods movement posting (in Customizing, under SCM Extended Warehouse ManagementExtended Warehouse ManagementInterfacesERP IntegrationGoods MovementsMake Settings for Synchronous Goods Movement Posting)

      Note

This warehouse process type is solely used for the determination of the goods receipt bin. The system does not consider the warehouse process type when it creates putaway warehouse tasks at goods receipt (see next item).

  • As the warehouse tasks are to be created automatically, you have selected the Automatic WT Creation at GR in:
    • The storage type of the staging area

      Available options are:

      • 1 Active
      • 2 Warehouse Process Type Decides
    • The warehouse process type to be used for the warehouse task

The WPT for the warehouse task is determined using the Process Indicator in the WPT determination. It can be set to the following:

      • 004 Receipt of unpacked items (Synchronous Goods Movement)
      • 005 Receipt of packed items (Synchronous Goods Movement)
      • 006 Receipt of unpacked items from production (Synchronous Goods Movement)
      • 007 Receipt of packed items from production (Synchronous Goods Movement)
      • 008 Receipt of unpacked items from vendor (Synchronous Goods Movement)
      • 009 Receipt of packed items from vendor (Synchronous Goods Movement)

The entries 004 and 005 as generic entries are used, if no more specific entries (for production or vendor) can be found. The document type, item type, or priority is not used in the determination. You can use a process type determination indicator, so the WPT can be determined based on the (warehouse) product.

Note

The following features are not available for synchronous goods movements for external procurement:
  • Return delivery for material documents using the HUs from the original material document

  • External HU numbering upon receipt
  • Packing serialized products or products with valuation units into HUs during goods receipt in the Post Goods Movement app

Depending on your SAP S/4HANA release, there might be other limitations.
